Yes will need it - she is actually a mix of several different colour combinations. My quail hobby extended to breeding different colours to see what I get.
Still hoping I will just get more by breeding her to a particular colour lol
Just gone over my notes - I am 99% certain I have identified the varying lines which created her :) If I am correct then I should be able to produce some unrelated Peach birds. Then it is a question of if it breeds true. I expect I will know early next year :)
Thanks, FloorCandy :)
Yes, I think you are correct. I will try the rosetta she is with for the next hatch - then maybe a nice solid silver and so on. I do have some like this : So time to experiment maybe :D
She is an anomaly - she must have come from one of my whites - narrows it down a bit. But have bred from them many times and she is the first.
Had it been a male - I would have just put 5 different colour females with them and see what happens.
Could be a case of trial and error - she is young :)
I have this beautiful peach female. No idea which breeding pen she came from - I tend to put eggs from all the pens in the incubator at the same time. She is currently with a Rossetta male.
Would you recommend breeding to a wild male to get more peach colours? If I can breed more - is it okay to...
Thanks NatJ - yes nothing can get to them and I could do a better job of closing that section in - the plastic was an impromptu decision to give them space from the rain and weather :) They hate the rain and pretty much spent all winter in this little space.
Up till violet going broody, they religiously put themselves to bed without issue and used the roost. I think they just discovered they prefer a higher perch (maybe?)
It is supposed to be nice this weekend - so a good time to get out there and see if raising it works :)
I made extra...
Added a picture of the coop. My original idea had been to give them the whole run of the garden. Unfortunately, some cats in the area thought my bantams looked like tasty snacks. I can only let them out when I am there - but I wanted a big area for them to play in. Lots of branches and things.
I...
You could be right. I took a picture of the actual coop. It is one I brought that said it was okay for four bantams. But have been unhappy with it since I put it up. Not the best picture - it is raining cats and dogs right now.
I am in the UK so lots of rain - the covered bit you see is just a small bit of the run. The open area is 3x this size. Right now this week it is actually rainy and cold enough to need a coat. It was in the 20s last week when the hen went broody.
I put the plastic up over winter and they seem...
I had to look up SSC ;) Found a picture of Myshire varieties:thumbsup these are the colours I see. Now to work out how I produced them (what hens they are from) lol
Thank you so much :)
