Okay so update:
vent is in and stays in but noticed she had poop on her feathers today. I closed her in the coop and watched for her to poop. She’s straining and it seems like she prolapses but then is able to retract everything? No one is picking on her or anything and she’s laid a few eggs...
Here’s an updated pic after daily soaks and pushing it back in since Tuesday.
After pushing it in, she will hold it in for a couple minutes but by the time I head inside, she’s bearing down for a minute and prolapsed again.
The poop that’s on her butt is hard and feels almost like a scab...
I definitely think better today. Not healed but better.
She laid an egg and is much less swollen. After we did a soak in some warm water, her prolapse was pushed back in for a short period but came back out. I’m not expecting a cure overnight definitely taking this as small progress.
No hard abdomen. I didn’t do epsom salt because the only salt I had was lavender.
We can try some lubricant but I’m worried about irritating it more. I noticed the prolapse because there was blood in the coop
I have a 2 year old layer who I believe is presenting with a prolapsed butt.
This started within the last 24 hours. She is a regular layer - typically one egg a day. We soaked her warm water, cleaned her up a bit and tried to push the prolapse back in but it will not stay. She keeps pushing...
As soon as I started treating her, my husband said he was worried it would cause me to get attached and if we got to this point, it would be even harder. Of course, he was right too. I’m also 26 weeks pregnant and emotional at baseline so this doesn’t help. You’d think a family member died by my...
Thank you for this. I was just having a really sad moment but I think you’re right. Something just isn’t right here and her quality of life isn’t what it should be. I feel ridiculous crying over a chicken but I don’t like seeing any person or animal suffering.
It’s hard to tell but from my understanding, everything beyond her crop is normal. She did just expel some liquid from bending her head down to eat a few crumbles though.
When palpating, she doesn’t seem bothered. I just took a video and she was sleeping during it. I’ll stick the link below...
Haven’t de-wormed. We were just about to introduce our 3 chicks to our bigger flock then all of this started.
I’m sorry I’ve replied to you in parts.
She has not laid an egg.
I haven’t dewormed her. We were just about to introduce her and our other two “chicks” to the bigger flock then all of...
As bad as it sounds, not likely. I’d love to help her but at the end of the day, she’s a chicken not a family member.
I know that’s a super touchy subject around here but we’re just not chicken “pet” type people.
This is her right now - you can see she just pooped and it’s already absorbed into the towel.
There’s no doubt she has pendulous crop but crop bras aren’t working. I put the bra on and she flails around until she gets to a corner and increases the risk of cutting herself.
Her breath is sour and...
I’m at a loss here and I think it might be time to put this chicken out of her misery. I just need advice.
I’ve been treating an approx. 18-20 week hen for sour crop since May 22nd. Just when I thought it was resolved, I noticed this chicken had a large laceration on her hanging crop. We...
That’s what I was thinking too? It’s just odd that we have the crop issue and this at the same time. I’ll soak her in some warm water tomorrow and see what happens. She doesn’t seem bothered when I touch it or anything but walks like it’s itching her. We’ll do a bath and see what happens.
