    International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

    GFF is a barrier to me in Canada. My birds traced back to GFF, and the breeder brought in New imports last year. So that was my plan, to go back to them. I just thought new blood woudlnt necessarily hurt.

    @RedBanks My last hen is beautiful and feminine. I want that type. She's a nice bird. Honestly a source closer to home was the biggest draw of these birds. The photos of them don't show enough to be sure of the rest of their build. They look okay, but not phenomenal. I'm trying to go back...

    I am in Canada, and I don't think I'll be able to buy Marans stateside. Its a big ordeal to import, and for me, while I want quality birds, the Marans in my flock are very much a hobby. :) I appreciate the advice

    thanks guys. To me the hen was the most alarming, and I personally don't like that look on a cockerel, the very heavy comb and wattles. Compared to my original stock the eyes do seem droopy to me and it is just off putting. I'm not sure what I'll do.

    Question: I was considering purchasing some hatching eggs, but every photo I've seen of the hens or roosters in the flock shows droopy saggy eyelids I'm assuming this is quite undesirable? Aesthetically I don't like the look.

    honestly ha that she doesn't have fatty liver disease. in all seriousness, she is a big solid hen with what I see as the epitome of a henly shape. I think her head is a bit masculine I don't think her tail is great, I think it could have a much better shape. I'm not sure about her colour her...

    International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

    I thought I'd update: the hen who hadn't layed forever had fatty liver disease, she was bright orange inside, everywhere and very fat. I butchered my main flock roo who I had posted before. He was getting aggressive and was being rougher than needed on the hens. I kept his son, who is quite...

    They're a four at best if I recall correctly. They aren't any darker than my barnyard mix unfortunately.

    Question: My year old FBCM hen has stopped laying for about 1.5 months. Should I cull her? This seems excessive even if she is molting. She was always the sporadic later between the two I have currently. I will update shortly with pullet photos from my first hatch. Generation one of my coop!

    Eggtopsy: What happened to my egg? {Graphic Pictures}

    It still looks good to me. They take 17-19 days, I'd guess the first photo is day 4 or so, I'd say you still have up to six days to go. I found a video about a pigeon egg on YouTube https://goo.gl/images/1JLVts

    Thanks @chooks He's feeling like a cull right about now honestly. I'm at my wits end with him. He's too timid, he won't stand nicely even if I hang out with him casually. His tail looks like a mess (it is, his pen mates this fall destroyed just his) So I have a frost bitten comb, a...

    Could some of you (or all of you) chime in on the quality of my rooster? Is he worth keeping. The photos aren't the best, he wasn't thrilled about the photo location. I'm not set on keeping him and life would certainly be easier this winter with one less rooster. With these two hens...
