Hi everyone. These are my babies from Kurt that hatched last Easter, a blue roo and splash hen. They are the first ones out of the coop every morning and the last ones in at night. So far, my boy has been friendly but the splash hen tends to stay away from me. I'm working on her.
I purchased eggs from Kurt last year and have a gorgeous blue roo and beautiful splash hen from his flock. These two are the first out of the coop every morning when I open the door, even with snow on the ground when the other hens won't come out. When I need more chickens for my coop I'll be...
Kurt: Here are the pics of our babies. Two hatched on Easter and three hatched the next day. One is a roo, but I'm not sure about the rest. One of the darker chicks has a club foot. We took a pic of it so you can see it. What would cause this? One of the splash chicks took a walk up my...
Kurt: The babies are doing great! I'll have to have my hubby take some pics and post them. As far as I can tell I have at least one roo. They are still in the house, but not for long! I can't stand the dust! They'll be moved to the garage for a few weeks and then out to the coop. We are...
DanielE990 - I feel for you. We had a fox get about half of our flock last November while our neighbor was flock-sitting for us. We have improved our run since then by adding hardware cloth along the bottom 2' and burying wire all around. You'll recover from this.
I just purchased eggs from Kurt at Rattlesnake Ridge in WV. He advertises in the Forum - Buy/sell/trade - Blue/Black/Splash Australorp eggs. There are pics of his line on the ad. The eggs were shipped very well wrapped, none of them were broken or cracked and all of them were a good size.
Kurt:
I just received the eggs you sent and they all arrived in great shape! I was very impressed at the size of your eggs. I can't wait until they hatch!
Thank you very much!
Good afternoon, everyone. My husband and I have had a mixed flock for about three years now and we (finally) decided to concentrate on Australorps. We have three beautiful BA hens as well as Orpingtons, Welsummers, a Black Sex Link and a "mystery" hen (given to us by a farmer whose duck was...
I found your post today and, although I am not anywhere near caught up, just had to comment. What a wonderful life journey! You and your family have such varied interests and experiences. I'll have to read a bit more later (if my dogs and chickens let me).
I just found this thread and find it very interesting as this is something I've been thinking about. This is only my second year of having chickens and I know that I still have a lot to learn. I started out with two BO chicks and four FBCM chicks one of which was a little boy. That FBCM roo...
At the moment, we have 10 chickens, which we free range when we're home. Two 50lb bags a month is more than enough right now. We are getting four more chicks on Friday, but they won't be getting the layer feed for awhile. Once the babies get on the layer feed (and in the winter) we'll need more.
