    Are Her Toenails the Problem?

Thanks so much, StinkyAcres. I think I'll try it. If you notice in the pictures, her feet look bumpy. Could that bumpiness most likely be arthritis?

    Are Her Toenails the Problem?

Thanks, BlueO. I am worried about hitting the quick and causing bleeding. What sort of clippers work best with ducks? I read that I should use either cat or dog nail clippers for this job?

    Are Her Toenails the Problem?

I have a sweet Barred Rock/Rhode Island Red Cross who is almost 8 years old. She is having trouble walking. She limps and stumbles. This has been going on for quite a while. I checked for bumblefoot, but that didn't seem to be the problem. I'm wondering whether I need to trim her toenails...

Please Help... How Do I Push Her Prolapsed Uterus Back In?!!!

Expert chicken friends, Poor Pretty Penny, my ameracauna green egg layer, has a prolapsed uterus! I'm not sure how old she is, but she's over 4. What next! I've tried gently pushing it back in. The first time after I did so, she laid an egg, so I gave her another bath and pushed it in again, but...

7 3/4 Year Old Broody Silver Sebright Hen w/Eggs fertilized by full-sized roo!

She just started sitting on her eggs yesterday, MagpieDucks. Maybe I will candle them. If all are bad, I could slip full-sized ones under her on Day 8? Do you think I dare move the nest to the safety of the spare coop?? I'm a little worried an animal might eat her eggs when she's away from...

7 3/4 Year Old Broody Silver Sebright Hen w/Eggs fertilized by full-sized roo!

Do farm stores all tend to sell day-old chicks (of ANY kind) in the heat of early July? She is old, and the only chicken I have of her breed, so I'd like a Sebright to raise because she won't be with us forever, and I thought one silver and one golden Sebright would be fun, but as you say, I'd...

7 3/4 Year Old Broody Silver Sebright Hen w/Eggs fertilized by full-sized roo!

Seeking opinions from chicken experts. My 7 3/4 year old Silver Sebright Bantam Hen has gone broody and is sitting on 11 of her own wee eggs in a romantic and cool place in my garden, well hidden by the Bishops Weeds. I have seen my large Barred Rock Rooster mate with her recently. He stands up...

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Does Sevin help kill mites in addition to lice? I did find mites on the roosts. I have used both Permethrin and D.E. in the coop and on the chickens in the past. At the vet's today they said bedding has been implicated as a carrier of both mites/lice, although this has not been proven.

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Well not exactly, no, but she did smack her beak bits together, sort of like licking one's lips... How do you give it? I smeared it inside her beak. I thought the syringes were too big to try. I'll try the out of the tube technique early this a.m. Maybe it will look like a tasty worm to her...

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Thanks, azygous. The other vet I called thought your idea sounded good, definitely worth a try. I have purchased the miconazole for Esther. I also bought her a watermelon, and she ate quite a few little bites of it with relish. So glad I didn't euthanize her! I am going to give it a shot...

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Well, I took my hen to the vet. He worked her in, because of her age. He said he had never heard of the Miconazole treatment and did not think it would work. He thinks she has some sort of systemic problem, that it's not just a crop problem. He didn't think she is suffering, necessarily, but...

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Thanks so much, azygous. Do I put the vaginal cream in her mouth or on her vent???

8 Year Old Hen Not Eating?

Well, I sure feel helpless. My sweet elderly hen, Esther Mary, who is 8 years old, isn't feeling well. Last night when I came home she was not in the coop with the other girls, and it rained all night. This morning I got up early and found her standing near a shed. Her feathers were dry, but she...
