    Cornish rocks ?!!

I could use some help here. We decided to "expand" our flock and purchased 28 Cornish Rocks from TSC-ranging from about 3-4 weeks of age. They all have been doing excellent and thriving as far as we could tell. However, when I went to change their water tonight, I noticed the 4 week olds are...

    Mareks in quail?

Brooder hasn't been used since last August-completely disinfected in between broods. I should have known to brood the chicks and quail separately, wasn't thinking about anything air-born. I have been the handwashing nazi, so nothing should have spread from my hands. The only symptoms...

    Mareks in quail?

Thank You-I hope it's just a fluke thing. The 2nd died this morning. We bought the hatching eggs from a local, so I honestly know nothing of his flock. I have separated the Cochins from the quail in their own brooder, have completely cleaned out the quail brooder and decided to sprinkle light...

    all who are hatching quail

Hi there-we just hatched our first quail and I'm hoping all of you veteran hatchers may be able to help. We used a brand new Brinsea mini eco, temp set at a rock solid 99.5 degrees, humidity at 50%, 65% for hatch, turned eggs 3X/day, hatched on day 18. We hatched 9 babies, 2 had spraddle leg...

    Mareks in quail?

Hi there-we just hatched our first quail. We hatched 9 babies, 2 had spraddle leg off the bat. We splinted their legs and one recovered within 24 hours, the other was doing just "OK." Within 48 hours after hatch, the same one developed wry neck. I was dropper feeding, administering Poly Vi...

Was 2 females and 1 male duck the right choice?

Thank You everyone. A friend has the Hovabator, so I think I will borrow it for my first hatch and see how it goes, then go from there. Many more questions to come on here as I get ready to incubate for the first time!

Was 2 females and 1 male duck the right choice?

Has anyone had luck with the Hovabator 1602-N rather then the Genesis? Is it a good idea to purchase the auto egg turner as well? The Brinsea has amazing reviews, but I think we need something that will hold more eggs per hatch. We're getting ready to purchase/incubate about 25 quail eggs...

If you have chickens and ducks, I need your help :)

Thanks, everyone! I agree that penning my ducks adjacent to my chickens is the best idea. Once they get a feel for each other, I can possibly try letting them free range together and go from there. This site is fabulous!

Was 2 females and 1 male duck the right choice?

We don't have well water here, so in a power outage, we still have water. I also have a section of the basement fenced off already as an emergency shelter for the chickens. We've only had to use it once to weather Hurricane Sandy, but it could be easily designated for the ducks if need be...

Was 2 females and 1 male duck the right choice?

I just joined BYC, and posted in the Intro page. A helpful fellow user suggested that I also post my questions in the Duck section, so here goes...Thanks for the help! Hello! I currently have 7 chickens, mostly barnyard mixes of all shapes and colors. I'm obsessed with them. My oldest...

If you have chickens and ducks, I need your help :)

Hello! I currently have 7 chickens, mostly barnyard mixes of all shapes and colors. I'm obsessed with them. My oldest pullet is 11 mos. and my 2 youngest are 6 mos. All of them are laying now, even through our New England winter, except for one of my 6 month olds (who's not the brightest...
