    Moulting query.

I do have one feather-pecker. She does it to every bird as they come near her, then eats the feathers. But not my dominant bird, and not Steerpike (bald-patch Ayam Cemani). They're both way too feisty! I've tried increasing their protein, and I've doubled their space. It's just an unfortunate...

    Moulting query.

Oh no, really? She WAS in with a rooster. That makes sense, actually. She doesn't look sore, and she's too feisty for anyone to pick on. Is it the done thing to put a rooster in with sexually immature hens? Seems a bit raw, if you ask me. She's very small and has no comb, to speak of. And...

    Moulting query.

Hello! I bought two birds at the weekend, one of which was an Ayam Cemani. She was one of only three left, all of whom had red bits on their combs and pink skin, so they obviously AREN'T proper Ayam Cemani, but I felt sad for them. (Let's face it, if people were only tolerated if they were...

    A lust for flesh?

This is true. I think relocating the one that is feather-pecking might be an idea. The others get along perfectly, now. Many thanks for your input. Xxx

    A lust for flesh?

Not an option, I'm afraid. Gardens in the uk, particularly in newly-built properties like mine, tend be extremely meagre, sadly. I'll have to look into purchasing an additional coop. Many thanks for your help. xxx

    A lust for flesh?

How odd.... The coop is sold as a 12/15 bird coop. I researched it before buying, and the uk rule of thumb seems to be 2 sq ft per large bird (Keeping Chickens For Dummies - I certainly qualify, so it seems!), I'm a bit gutted that the coop is way too tight :( They do have access to oyster...

    A lust for flesh?

I wasn't getting updates on this thread. I'm so sorry! My coop is 4 x 5 x 5 (l, w, h) in feet. With lots of roosts. My diet is convoluted, but only since reading about needing more protein on BYC! Hence the egg, worms, etc. Had no idea about growers pellets! The main feather pecker culprit...

    A lust for flesh?

Ahhhhh. Interesting stuff! Has been VERY HOT here, on and off. (British summer time) On hot days, I shade the run. OMG, do I have racist hens?? ;) xxxxx

    Bunny FINALLY laid another egg!!

I had no idea that 'freeloading' hens was even a thing! But I'm sure it'll happen to me eventually. Just wanted to say that 'Bunny' is the most adorable name for a hen, ever. Now I want a Bunny, too...... Cleo. xxxx

    The Golden Nesting Box

I have this problem! I have eight point of lay birds, with only four laying so far. Only one box will ever be laid in. More infuriating is that the other two are clearly just toilets, in their eyes! xxx
