Clay, Since you have all that space why not make three separate runs and divide up the coop to raise different varieties? I've found that once I had the first kind of chicken I wanted to add some color to my flock and bought two more varieties.
Don't forget to put netting over the outdoor...
I've got 3 week old chicks and put them into the coop last weekend with a couple heat lamps. They were jumping and flying to the top of their brood box and outgrowing it as well. i've got plenty of deep liter (sand, shredded paper, wood chips and straw) and they are having a blast running...
Well I guess I can rule out the RIR as one of them that I got. Mine are pretty peachy/rust color with some stripping on them. Some are just plain yellow chicks too. I'm guessing that those are the meat chickens. Not sure I'll be able to eat them though...
I'm really new to chickens. What does RIR mean? I got some chicks today that are 'standard run' so I don't know what kind they are. They guy said he thought they were ISA Brown and meat chickens... Any idea where I can find pictures of chicks online to compare?
