We have a rooster and a hen. They are free range in a big open area backed by Georgia woods. They lay nice big light brown eggs. Hen is a nice broody mama. Hatched 6 of her own chicks this year. Rooster is not viscious and he is beautiful.
I have 3 incubators going. I dry hatch. I have one full of Black Copper Maran eggs. The humidity in the house is 59%. Gonna rainn any minute. lol. The humidity in the incubator is 49%. I want to lower it some, but how? If I open the vent will it lower or raise the humidity?
Actually I am talking about adding chicks from outside the flock. Yes I let my hens hatch their own eggs if they will but I also added 6 sebright chicks from a friend's flock and am buying a dozen mixed eggs to incubate tomorrow.
I purchased my third incubator this year. So far we have had three hatchings of Sebrights and Easter Eggers from our own eggs. These all were sold. To add chicks to our flock we bought Sebrights from another chicken lover in our area, hoping to avoid inbreeding in our small flock.
For the first...
These are Easter Eggers and we hatched them from the same color egg. Would the difference in base coat indicate a different hen or do you get these differences from the same parents?
We owned this incubator. Other than having to add water to it often it worked fine. It stopped working and someone gifted us a new one. We have eggs in it as of this afternoon. We marked a line on the incubator and cover to insure it is lined up when we close it. It doesn't always close easily.
