The first chick is doing well, have been out to see the others and there is another one the same colour with similar injuries.
Both are now up in a box in my room with the heat lamp.
I'm tempted to remove the last two as well soon as I'm really not comfortable leaving them with her!
Thank you...
I've had a surprise 3 chicks hatch ( will explain when calmer.
They are 3 days old and I've just gone out to check them and found one with a cut on his head in the food bowl. Mum ignoring his chirping.
I've taken him out and put him in a box with a lamp bedding food and water but now panicking...
One of my girls has just squished through the fence and ended up in the mouth of next doors dog, I managed to get it to let go and as she run back through the gap she got stuck. I managed to free her and wrapped her straight in a towel. She has no puncture wounds or blood. She is in a bit of...
Thanks, I've decided to have a nesting box made that can go downstairs in the run so I don't need to worry about the ladder. It should be ready for the weekend so I'll leave them locked in the coop until then just to be safe. I'll add new bedding too.
How long after the chicks hatch can I move mum and baby's to the bottom of the coop?
Do I put the old bedding in the new box or will they be happy with a new clean bed?
I'll be removing the ladder and shutting the main nesting area and giving them a cat box as a nest on ground level is this...
Do you have space for a pen around your coop? I have two cats and that's what we have. More for my peace of mind, the chickens come out in the rest of the garden when I'm home but stay in the pen if I'm out.
My cats have never taken much notice of my chickens but better safe then sorry for me...
Thanks Jess :)
I've just mentioned this to my husband and we have decided to put in a temporary false floor for a weeks so they can come out at one level but I don't have to move them to quickly.
So basically the whole enclosure is off ground level with no where for them to fall
Thanks, I don't really want to move her if I can help it. I was thinking of wire meshing the doors until they are hatched and then moving them?
When will they be able to use the ladder?
