    the mutant egg!!!

my chickens all started laying in the past few weeks. they all arent quite regular yet though. so last night I walk out to the coop to check the nesting boxes and find a HUGE egg. I mean its got to be 3x normal size. So we crack it open for breakfast and...plop, another normal size egg drops...

    chicken songs

are males the only ones that do the "buk buk buk bukaaahhh" song? I have a rooster that does this and have noticed a younger little girl doing the same thing. When one starts the other joins in.None of the others do it so I was wondering if its just a copy cat thing or maybe the one I think is a...

    male on male???

My golden wyandotte rooster is a little on the aggressive side with the girls. we recently have been trying to get two groups of slightly different ages together. So far so good, however... the same rooster seems to really "like" one of my production reds that I believe is male. Is this normal...

    Do hens crow???

yup, that did it. thanks for those pics. I am now convinced that they are roos. oh well, we love them anyway! They get along, I guess because they have been together since they hatched. I still wonder why the other one we had, had a totally different comb (same feathers so Im still saying he was...

do I have a rooster and a pullet?

I dont know if this is much help, I am in a similar gender guessing state with my golden laced wyandottes. The "rooster" had a comb that had 5 finger like projections off the top. The two that we believed to be hens have bumpy rose combs. But now I am being told that they are roos. (the one with...

    Do hens crow???

I am still not totally convinced that what I believed were 2 hens are truly roos. The "rooster" of the same breed had a very different comb. But these two cock-a-doodle-do. I have read that in the absence of a rooster, hens will crow. Is this true? One of them crowed even when "rooster" was...

    Hello

I just joined today too. If you post pictures of your "unknown" chickens, everyone is wonderful about saying what they think they are. I did that with mine and have gotten info that made me change my mind about the breeds I have!!! It great to have a place to learn a lot of helpful info
