I am looking for Bantam Wyandotte hatching eggs. The only ones I saw on buy/sell/trade were partridge and that isn't really our first choice. Can anyone point me in the right direction as to where I might find someone who is willing to part with a few?
Searching for bantam wyandotte hatching eggs for a friend of mine. Prefer buff, black or white if possible, but if you have another variety send a picture my way and they might like those as well.
Got in there and inspected a little closer today. From what i can tell I have 3 roosters who could possibly have some brahma blood, one actually looks pretty good. And 3 hens that might be Brahmas. The amount of feather damage from rooster abuse makes it even tougher for someone like me who...
Yeah, I'm going to get down and examine them all a bit closer. For right now The one big rooster with his back to the camera in the last picture seems to be about the only one who looks Brahma at all. I probably have just inherited a flock of chicken and dumplings.
I have recently inherited a flock of what are supposed to be Brahma chickens. The hens are a little rough because they didn't keep the rooster population down, but aside from that I'm not sure if some of them are even Brahmas. I know the people well and I don't think they were trying to...
In that case the only question left to me is, does anybody in eastern nc have these birds? Or is anyone selling hatching eggs from good stock anytime soon?
If black chicks do not carry any blue genes, why does everyone recommend black X splash to get blue? If the answer is obvious forgive me, but I will admit I know very little about genetics. Most of what I have learned about chicken genetics, was just enough to figure out how to breed sex links...
Everyone I have ever heard pronounce the breed has said Orphington, so you'll have to excuse me for just reading over it and never noticing the difference. I imagine I will continue to say it that way, as arguing with old timers about how to pronounce chicken names will do little to aid the...
My roosters are both 18 months old. They are mating with hens from a completely different bloodline.
The feed I use is Carolina Pride, it comes from a local mill out of Goldsboro NC and everyone I associate with feeds it now. I actually sell it at my own feed store. All of the other...
So if I order blue orphingtons from a hatchery, assuming I can't find any in my area with better stock. Any of the black and splash ones I receive will still carry the genes to produce blue offspring as long as I'm not breeding BlackXBlack or SplashXSplash? I was just unsure of how that trait...
Reposting to see if anyone can help me out. I really want to get started with these birds, but if I get a combination that wont allow me to get blue in the offspring then it'll be a huge letdown.
The past 5 hatches from my own fertile eggs have all resulted in around a 33 percent or worse hatch rate. In one case (incubator)I had 75 percent hatch, then quite a few died on me with no warning on the first night. The next round of eggs from the incubator a week later, only 15 of 42 eggs...
Yes, I have hatched about a dozen peacocks over the past year under bantam game hens. It's really no different than anything else with a broody hen, it's just a longer incubation time.
