Turns out, it was a pullet. I saw her squat & drop an egg in the run and go back to regularly scheduled chicken business. Needless to say, that comb has gotten massive.
I will. This is a great place for information!
I hope I am able to get my girl well with the antibiotic & anti-inflammatory in the mean time.
Thank you! :)
Thank you!
Yes, Comet & Queens have been excellent layers! Feed 2 is what we are currently using. I will for sure try find & offer the calcium phosphate.
I was did mention the calcium levels in the food we currently feed (option 2).
He did say that the food they are getting fine but calcium does need to be supplemented with always available oyster shells (which I do) and/or calcium rich greens (kale, broccoli, turnips).
I am considering
The hen...
I have gotten a few double yolks & soft shells in the past from younger hens - very few though and never from this particular hen. She has always had nice shells.
This particular hen has been a very good layer up to this point.
That makes sense. Thank you!
I do keep oyster shells available to them whenever they want in a couple of places in the run.
They also get a variety of veggies/herbs daily
Thank you! I will keep them on what they are eating currently.
One of our hens had a piece of egg membrane that deflated & got stuck. She is being treated with anti biotics and anti inflammatories at the moment.
This is not the first hen that has had this issue. They have 2 containers in the run that have shells & 2 for grit.
I feed shells not powder.
Looking at some new food options.
Our vet reccomended a food with at least 2% calcium. What would you pick?? More protein and less of the other stuff or the one with all the vitamins & and pre/prebiotics and a little less protein?? Option 1 or 2?
They are supplemented with free access to...
I think you were on the right path. I went out to check and there was an egg. However, I feel like I committed a crime now, lol, she was looking for it. She went right to that box looking around and was flicking the bedding all over the place.
Thank you! :)
Thank you!! I didn't even think about that. She is hollering the whole bit. Even when I let them out in the yard earlier she was running all over the place frantic.
None of the others have ever acted this way.
She did pick a box that the others do not use. She wasn't there long. I did notice...
I have 6mth old Olive egger that is frantic today. She has been laying okay. I have found her eggs in the nesting box, coop floor, run. However, today she is acting extremely frantic. She cleaned out my nesting boxes and seems to be searching for a spot but is not laying down. I don't really...
I did do a little research about how the females will have a toupee & males have a mullet and usually a whit patch somewhere on their head. Neither of them have whit on their heads or any rust on the body other than their breat area. I am not sure HOW reliable that is though.
