    Hens missing feathers.

How long does it normally take for feathers to grow back?

    Hens missing feathers.

So most if not all of my hens are missing feathers. They are missing the ones right along their back, just before getting to the tail. They don't appear to be in any sort of distress, and there doesn't appear to be any wounds to the skin. I had a rooster a while back, and with only 6 hens I...

    CALLING ALL CHICKEN COOP GURUS

Here is what I did for my boxes. You could do something similar and just put some legs on the boxes youve got to get it up off the ground a bit.

    pioneer chicken raising--feeds

This is getting rather interesting. I would tend to agree with you in that the early pioneers were not very particular in what was fed their birds. Again not saying it was garbage but like you said probably some grain and then they were left to fend for themselves. Personally I've got 20 acres...

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

I agree that today was beautiful. My chickens are still fairly young and today was the first time I had let them out free ranging. They loved every minute of it, and they all came faithfully back.

    Weatherproof outdoor feeder.

I covered a section of my run. Works great. Keeps feed dry and gives the chickens a place to go outside in inclimate weather.

    Fussy chook introducing pests

You could always switch to a crumble or a pellet as opposed to the mash. I know when I used mash for a short period they seemed to waste more for sure as opposed to the crumble.

I am just north of you I live in Bellville. Out of curiosity, where do you get your feed from? I've got TSC not too far and they have the DuMor brand which is I believe 16% protein and I've got a local feed mill that has 15%. I was looking for something with a little more protein.

Home dryer vent 5 feet from chicken coop run

There is nothing wrong with extending the pipe.i would do it in 4" hard pipe as opposed to the corrugated flea pioe.Wouldn't be anything wrong with running vent pipe outside, shouldn't be against code or anything.(I'm an HVAC Tech) If you do run it outside don't use screws to put the piping...

Home dryer vent 5 feet from chicken coop run

You have to be careful when putting venting on your dryer. Look at what the manufacturer specifies for length. If your under that you could always pull the part off the outside of your house and run some vent piping on the outside of your house around the corner and vent it over there.

OHio ~ Come on Buckeyes, let me know your out there!

Hello all, just found the Ohio group (not sure why it took so long). But anyway my chicken raising started with hatching a few eggs a lady my wife works with gave her to put under a broody hen my father in law had. And now I'm up to those original 2 ( which were barnyard breed hen and rooster) ౩...
