If the birds the shops get are already diseased , then the shop is not very responsible and they are buying from disreputable vendors. More likely they just don't want to be bothered as doves are rather flighty and blow dirt all over flapping their wings. Again, if the shop is buying good birds...
Don't post BS when it is only your opinion and not borne out by facts. not many issues are comm0on to doves/pigeons and other birds kept i n captivity. As long as they are from a reliable source and the shop is properly maintained, there is no reason not to buy from them.
First thing is to get off the chicken site and start looking for pigeons for sale. Google is your friend. The best thing would be to find a show in your area and attend. Kings are not particularly rare and you might find some right in your area.
Saddle homers are bred for showing and have almost no homing ability. I would never put them on the road as the odds are they will NOT come back. Just keep them and enjoy. You can free fly them around home as long as they are well settled into your loft.
Contrary to your humble opinion, it is in fact a racing homer. You cannot tell by looking at the eyes. You should be more careful about posting incorrect information.

They are feather lice. Instead of messing around with stuff for chickens or whatever go to a pigeon supply company like Foy's and get a product safe to use on pigeons. They are not really harmful except they eat holes in the feathers .
I have raised pigeons for 60 years and have never heard of either of these. My guess is that these are foreign names for varieties which may or may not be here in the U.S. It will be necessary to understand what these particular varieties are. Where are you getting the names from?
First thing is to get off the chicken site and start looking at pigeon sites. Google "pigeons for sale" for starters. Shields are fairly rare and expensive and I doubt you want to spend that kind of money for 4H pigeons. The common varieties can be had for reasonable prices and you may find some...
Pigeons would be fine as the cold does not bother them. We are not talking about exotic kinds here but the kinds most people call "pigeons". Ringneck doves are also fine and come in a wide variety of colors and are easy to keep and breed. Usually you will be overrun with them. Mourning doves...
