We only have one pair of peafowl at this time. The hen pretty much stays in barnyard but Mr. Cocky runs our country neighborhood. He spends his winters in our neighbor's garage. Misty has him eating dry cat food out of her hand! Before he molted, he could be heard calling from a woods where...
Meet Mo' Chicken. Standard cochin. Earlier this summer he survived a fox attack. He made 3 trips to the vet, and lived through my tube feeding him. My $4 chick is now a $200 marvel.
Coons are the head hunters, fox kill many and take them back to the den one at a time. A fox came into the horse barn at night and took a setting hen from her nest. I was able to hatch her eggs. They hatched in 2 days! I knew they were close to hatching. I lucked out.
Big Mo Chicken was...
Fox attack . His ribcage and neck were purple with bruising. And the tear on his shoulder. He is almost back to being himself. He has recovered enough that handling him is a battle. He's in a small pen in the chicken lot. That chicken coop set up has Mo, seven cochin chicks, 2 single hens and a...
The wound is healing well. The antibiotic that gets put on it is yellow so some infection may remain but peroxide doesn't bubble alot. The wound is on the nob of his shoulder, where the wing attaches. You can see some bone when the scab is off. The suture is at the top toward his spine.
He has had 2 sets of them. Today he was eating bird seed and crumbles. Drinking water and eating some of a peach. He is getting so strong that my husband has to hold him so I can clean his wound. He can probably go in the coop with the hens and hens that have chicks if I find a dressing that...
Mo went back to the vet for wound cleaning. The open place on his shoulder is deep and now infected. Fever is 105+. There were 4 vets and students checking him out. He wasn't given much of a chance of recovering. Well today went it was time to feed him he was surprisingly anti social. Haha. Did...
Big Mo saw the vet yesterday. He has a bite/tear on his shoulder, nickel size. He got 2 antibiotic shots and meloxicam. I tube fed him and this afternoon he seems stronger. 🤞
Took him to the vet today. Temp. 104.6, extensive bruising on back, neck chest. The vet put iodine on a bite mark on his shoulder and in a few minutes it came open to expose bone and muscle. About the size of my finger pad. Gave him 2 antibiotics IM and oral Meloxicam. His prognosis is 50/50.
They stop fainting when they become accustomed to their every day environment. I can always get them to faint. You just have to find different ways to startle them.
My oldest one is 14 and she gets stiff legs most if the time. The bucks do the tripod - forehead and back legs. Front legs buckle.
Yesterday my cochin rooster was attacked by a fox. He doesn't have open wounds but his neck is weak and he has trouble breathing. Underside of his neck has a soft swelling/bruising

Hi, I have a hobby farm in central Ohio. My collection includes a pony, 2 donkeys, 10 standard cochins, a pair of peafowl, 8 fainting goats, 3 dogs and 4 cats. Right now, my favorite rooster is injured. Attacked by a fox yesterday. No open wounds but his neck is weak and he is gasping for...
