An update on my post.
I did figure out whose ducks they are, it’s two houses over from me on the lake. The ducks are still doing well. They stick together and the otters seem to have given up on eating them which was my main worry.
They still look really good, they are still pretty people shy...
Hi Floridians. Im wondering if anyone in unincorporated Orange County has gone through the permit process.
And if there is a more local group for Orange County/Orlando.
I don’t know that I will get chickens this year but want to start getting set up and curious if they still have permits...
I know growing up on a lake I learned a long time ago not to get to attached to the dozen baby ducks following mama around. Last year the owls we just the worst at trying to catch them. Thankfully the angry little Red Wing Black birds do their part to chase them away.
Our otters aren't as big as...
I have never noticed that they have killed a grown duck but I suspect they are responsible for some of the ducklings that go missing every year. We have a ton of Mallards and Wood ducks so they don't seem to be doing a lot of population control. I grew up on another lake in the neighborhood, we...
Thanks everyone for the advice. I’m going to keep an eye on them for now and try and get them to warm up to my presence while I see if there are any place they could be rehomed. I just went out to check on them and the were hiding from the lake otters up in the neighbors yard. I hadn’t seen the...
They like the neighbors dock right now, if I can get them to start hanging under mine that could be a solution. My dock actually has more space below so maybe I can enclose it.
Yeah they look pretty good to me. When they are on the other side of the fence they don’t mind if I get pretty close and they seem healthy, nice feathers. The little Black Swedish seems to be the boss and she keeps them in line.
I’m just not finding any rescues around that take non native...
That’s sort of my plan for now. Ideally I’d build an enclosure for them to be secured in overnight and nest in but think that could get me in trouble. So I’m just keeping an eye on them to make sure they seem healthy and hoping they will become my friends lol. Just thinking of ways to make sure...
My understanding is you can have Pekins without a permit and other species like the Black Swedish with a permit but in Orange County limits where I am you aren't permitted to keep any waterfowl in Residential zoning. My area has raccoons but they don’t seem to affect the grown ducks and we...
That is something I’m considering. A lot of the rescues I know mostly take and rehab injured native species but maybe I can find someone who raises ducks. They are a bit too skiddish of me to get close to them right now so it wouldn’t be easy to gather them all up. Our lake is private and they...
So I joined this forum a couple years ago wanting pet ducks but it just isn’t legal here in central Florida so I moved on and am now awaiting an opportunity for chickens, since that has finally passed yay.
In the meantime a couple months ago someone has released pet ducks on my lake. I don’t...
For sure don’t need anything producing that much and fast. I don’t mind waiting a bit for them to produce and even if they didn’t it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
I have a friend with ducks, she has runners, and she warned me how messy they are. I have a pretty big yard with an area I was...
Thanks, I think pets first and then eggs would be a bonus. I love the idea of fresh eggs from my own yard but don’t need super producers. I have no intention of showing chickens either so I don’t need anything too fancy lol. I really looked into ducks a couple years ago but that didn’t seem...
Hi from Unincorporated Orange County, anyone else on here hopeful about the backyard chicken ordinance passing. I was able to take the UF course last spring when it went online hopeful we’d eventually be allowed to have them.
Also, a little ahead of myself but any recommendations of what kinds...
