Just wanted to update everyone. Bean's tumor-thing eventually fell off, and Bruce's is gone as well. Our local feed store got us an antibiotic and it cleared everything up within a week! I will try to get around to posting some pictures, but all is well and thank you everyone for your help!
Don't have any pictures of his eye today, but it is looking WAY better! The swelling is going down and it is drying up and shrinking pretty nicely. We are still waiting for FFA to respond to take a look at the situation. Unfortunately it appears that our other chick Brucie is developing the same...
Alrighty so here is today's update...
The local FFA that we got the chickens from finally called back and said that they will have a "specialist" look at Bean to determine what it is, so we are planning on doing that... as soon as they call us back again. His eye changes every day and I have...
Wow that looks like the same thing Kathy! What happened with the chick?
He is eating and drinking just fine. His poop has been a very potent brown diarrhea recently though.
Ok here is this morning's update. There has definitely been some change in the past 24 hours. I looked last night and it looked like the scab/tumor/bump was starting to recede from the eyelid/eye, like it was beginning to lift off like scabs do when they are done healing. So I looked this...
It either started on the eyelid, or underneath the eyelid but definitely did not start on the eye. I have not seen any blood, but there is a scabby like substance on the tumor. I don't really detect any sort of odor coming off it though. I did not realize that pus is a hard mass for chickens...
With pox though don't they get it all over, and aren't the scabs smaller? This is a HUGE tumor-like thing covering his whole eye. It could be pox but I just don't think it looks like pox. Do you have any pictures of yours?
I am really starting to think it is cancer. We talked to a friend at a local feed store and that is what he said. He suggested euthenization, but we want to save that as an absolute last resort. I have literally looked all over the internet for what it could be and haven't seen anything like it...
Wow this is a REALLY old thread but I recently picked up a RIR with the EXACT same thing and we are thinking it is cancer. I have been looking all over the internet for a chicken with the same condition mine had and this is literally the only one I have found in the 2 weeks we have had our RIRs...
It's crazy how you pick out three chicks thinking they are all hens and two end up being roosters! Thanks a ton guys! Ill post new pictures in a few weeks!
Wow! That seems like the same thing! I thought I had some one of a kind problem with my little chick. I will have to try that, can I get it at a feed store?
