    Anytime. As a hunter and pet owner I do have to say that I would never knowingly shoot anyones pet, whether it be a duck, deer or whatever. Just remember though there are those types out there. Also check on the internet about the hunting season dates, this may help if they are already involved...

    They do eat mallards and they are not shot just to "stuff".Contacting law enforcement would be useless unless the hunters came on your property or shot your duck while it was on your property. Your safest bet is to do as suggested and build a secure pen or enclosure. Good luck.

    I use this water bucket, without the light (I live in northwest Florida) dont have much of a freezing problem.
