    Reintroducing a hen

I separated a hen due to an injured comb from running into the fence after being spooked. She has been living in a cage in my garage for over a week now. Her comb is healing up and last night I free ranged her with everyone. She ended up ruthlessly attacking a couple of different hens a couple...

    Wind chill doesn’t count, right?

Just at tractor supply or wherever. I always get the large flakes but medium and fine are always in stock as well. You should be able to buy them the same place you bought the pine pellets

Why not just use the fine pine flakes? That is what the pellets are made of

    Wind chill doesn’t count, right?

Tomorrow the high is 6F. If I turn the heater on it will only be 5-10 degrees warmer in the couple of square feet surrounding the heater so it'll still be well below 32F.

    Wind chill doesn’t count, right?

I'm freaking out about the cold too. I have a well ventilated coop. All of the ventilation is up high. I also do the deep litter method with large pine flakes. My coop is not insulated at all but is solid. I have a thermometer against the wall in there and I also put one on the floor last night...

I'm ready for the pep talk (moving chicks out to the coop)

A few bits and pieces sitting around that I'm cleaning up right now and need to sweep and set up bedding etc still but doing that today.

    Can they go outside?

Yes it is a very secure coop with ventilation up high so it shouldn't be drafty and the run is fully covered so there should be no problems with them getting wet. I have 25 Austrolorps and 9 New hampshires, and 2 mystery chicks.

    Can they go outside?

Hello there! I was searching the group and came across this post. My chicks are 3 weeks old today and I'm tempted to move them out. It's a bit cooler than what your weather was with the lows in the mid 40s and highs in the low 60s. How did your chicks do?? Any advice?

I'm ready for the pep talk (moving chicks out to the coop)

Yeah I honestly do not know how to even transport them in and out. They are hard to catch anyways and catching them all and putting them into something to then take them somewhere and back... I don't even know how I'll get them to the coop once let alone daily or when we get a colder night lol I...

Their wings and backs are fully feathered. Their chests are about 1/3 to 2/3 feathered and their tails are about 1-2 inches long. Their bellys and heads are all fluff. Does this seem more or less feathered than yours are typically?

I'm ready for the pep talk (moving chicks out to the coop)

My 36 chicks will be 3 weeks old tomorrow. They've been in the garage in a large wooden brooder box and the lows in there are from 59*-64*. The coop is much colder, this morning it is 39* inside of the coop which is the outside temp. **The brooder plate is rated for 50* and up! This is my...

These chicks have me stumped about bedtime

Now that is super interesting! Mine are actually 11 days old today. I have noticed that in the past 2 days they are actually using the whole brooder and using the perches and big feeder I put in there a few days ago. I think today I will gather some branches and maybe set up a piece of cardboard...

These chicks have me stumped about bedtime

The coop temp fluctuates a lot more. The garage has stayed between 64 and 72 and the coop has fluctuated from 40 to almost 90 during the same times over the past 10 days. Right now it is 54 and rainy outside with the garage being 64 and the coop being 50. Later this next week it will be sunny...
