Red neck and lost neck feathers under chin?

Thank you so much for the reassurance! I've checked up close and there doesn't seem to be any mites or infestation 🎉 is the feather picking done herself or by others? As Katsu is normally the top bird!

Red neck and lost neck feathers under chin?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knew what might be happening to my maran cross cream legbar hen? And if so what I might be able to do to help her! She has a patch of red and featherless skin under her chin along her throat. It looks inflamed and red the closer to her chin. It doesn't seem to...

Rate my Rooster (Purebred Cream Legbar)

I thought his comb looked quite small in comparison to other Roos! Is his colouration normal? Or is his feathering too light?

Rate my Rooster (Purebred Cream Legbar)

This is Noodle my Purebred Cream Legbar Cockerel. He is lovely, calm, allows me to pick him up as I please and looks after his ladies well. Although he can be a bit daft and face a corner of a wall for a while, or call over the hens to look at some chicken poop :gig I was just wondering how...

    Marsbar hens

I'm in the UK too and crossed my CL cockerel with my Marans (do not know if they mother was my Blue copper or Black copper), they hatched 3 days ago and I got one yellow chick with feathered legs, one black barred chick feathered legs and one black barred chick with no feathering on legs: Ask...

    Genetic Mystery

Thank you for explaining this so well! :hugsFinding chicken feathering genetics super interesting, although I don't know much! It's like a game of Cluedo, working out the genotypes from the phenotypes 🧐 I see now how unlikely he is to carry the wheaten gene, think I just got too overenthusiastic...

    Genetic Mystery

I think you cracked it, if both the CL cockerel and Maran hen carry the recessive Wheaten gene, you'll get a very small chance of having a barred wheaten female chick!

    Genetic Mystery

Makes a lot of sense, the eggs I hatched her from were from a mixed pen of marans (blue, black, splash etc)!!! Would not be surprised if the breeder also had wheatens :thumbsup

    Genetic Mystery

Looked at the barred cream gold duckwing colouration and my cockerel doesn't have any colour (just light white and grey barring) on his wingtips like the duckwing? 🤔 By the way, thank you for all the help! Really enjoying working it out. Will try and keep you updated on what colouring the...

    Genetic Mystery

So pretty! Yep, dead certain he's the father. There is no other cockerel for miles, they live in a completely closed garden, I hatched all the chicks myself and they haven't left our yard! There is no way they aren't the parents 🤔 Could it be some weird throwback from the cream legbars? The...

Black Copper Maran over Black Americuna, results in White Chick

Could your Maran carry splash genetics? Splash Maran chicks look just like it did! With the white and dark spots?

    Genetic Mystery

Certain, however, I don't know which Maran (blue or black) is mother to each chick. The Marans are the only ones with feathered legs in my flock 🧐 Plus I saw the yellow chick hatch from the Dark brown egg! I played around with the chicken genetic calculator...

    Genetic Mystery

Just seen this and I just had a yellow chick hatch from a crested cream legbar cockerel crossed with either a blue or black Maran, just yesterday! Wondering if the same genetic thing happened? My other Maran cross cream legbar chicks are black, and one of the black chicks has no feathering on...

Cream Legbar cross chicks (Maran X and Barred Plymouth Rock X), sexing and colour genetics?

Father (CL - Noodle - White and grey mottled undercoat, with gold, cream and red barred top feathering, and a grey mottled and barred tail, small head crest): Mother of CLxCL chicks 1,2,3 (CL - Nutmeg - standard cream legbar hen colouring and a really strong head crest): Mothers of CLxM...
