So it's been really hot lately where I live, and my chickens have been hiding in the shady area of their run all the time so I think they're feeling the heat to. I figured the best thing to do would be to make an ice treat! I'm gonna get some stuff they like, and some water on top, freeze a...
I've got some hens and roosters but I can't tell if some of my hens are actually roosters and are just a late-bloomer. My (for-sure) roosters have huge combs and pretty big and droopy wattles. All my hens (except for one who doesn't have a comb or wattle at all) have combs but they're just...
So it's that time of the week again, coop cleaning! My coop has a slide out bottom... but it's so shallow that the shavings and poop just can't fit through the slot it slides out of (so I end up using a broom and a shovel)! They also poop in their nesting boxes and the shovel can't fit in there...
Okay, thank you everyone. I'm going to keep one for now, and if he stays "calm" I'll keep him but if he gets too out of hand I'll give him up. There's a farmers association near me that will take unwanted roosters and keep them safe and give them a nice home until someone wants one (for like...
I have nowhere to put my roosters, I can't build another coop because I don't have enough room in my yard but I'm really attached to all of them. My hens are starting to lay eggs so does that mean problems are sure to arise very soon?
I've never had a problem with any of my chickens ever being aggressive. I hatched them myself so they've always been together and known each other as "siblings". They don't hurt when I hand feed them, they're really quite soft when they eat out of my hand.
No, they all share one big coop. They all get along well and I've never had a problem with any of them being aggressive. I have one silkie and the rest are just "normal" roosters I guess... they're the ones you always see on television.
So they hatched on January 31st/February 1st so they're still pretty young, they're still kinda small too... anyways when they get older the crowing will calm down a little? I know I've got too many roosters but I can't bare to part with them.
I have a smallish flock, I've got 3 roosters and 4 hens. The hens are all good, they're even laying eggs earlier than I expected! My problem is my roosters, they crow... a lot! The real problem is that I live in the suburbs... I've got no-crow collars on them but they do pretty much nothing...
