    Young Roos

Thank you for the good information. I looked closer and they both have 5 toes on each foot.

    Young Roos

Hi everyone! I was recently given two males which appear to be young. I don’t have any information on them. They seem to be friendly so far and will let you hold them if caught. I’m keeping them separated from my hens for now. The gray one just started crowing since I’ve had him. I’m curious...

    BLOOD IN STOOL

A few weeks away from being two years old. I’ll definitely keep an eye on all of them.

    BLOOD IN STOOL

Thank you. I feel better about it now. I’ve just never seen this before in any of my chickens.

    BLOOD IN STOOL

I found blood in the stool from one of my chickens. Not sure which one it is. Is this something to be concerned about? I have three hens. One is currently molting so she has not been laying. All of them are still eating, drinking and acting normal.

    Stopped laying and possibly molting?

I have a barnevelder hen who is about 10 months old. The last 4 days I’ve gone into the coop, there has been quite a bit of her feathers on the ground. I’ve also noticed that I haven’t gotten an egg from her in probably close to a week. It looks as if she might be losing them in her breast area...

    Broody peahen

Honestly, I’m not sure who she belongs to. We live on 56 acres and I have never met any of the neighbors near that part of the property. Whoever it is has more than one because I hear the others throughout the day.

    Broody peahen

There is a peahen who decided to lay her four eggs on the roof of my shed some weeks ago. Recently she’s been flying down for about 15 mins a day to walk around, hang out with my chickens and eat some of their feed. I have no experience with peafowl at all so I have a few questions. When the...

    Eggs on the roof

Over the last few months there’s been a couple peafowl wandering around my yard during the day (I’m assuming they belong to the neighbors). This afternoon I went out to go check on my chickens and I noticed one of the peahens was up on the roof of our shed. I was able to get up near her and when...

    Aggressive chicken

I think I figured out the issue. When she was biting me, I was wearing shorts. The last few days I’ve gone out in long pants with no issue. This morning I went out in shorts and the biting started again.

    Aggressive chicken

It’s definitely biting, to the point where it breaks skin and draws blood. She was always very sweet until recently. I’m still going to keep working with her. Hopefully I can get it under control soon.

    Aggressive chicken

I have four girls, all around 5 months old. Recently, one of them (my barred rock) started aggressively biting me when I go into the coop and even when she’s out in the yard. I’ve tried holding her down or “pecking” back at her when she does it but it doesn’t seem to be helping yet. Two of them...

What are your pets named? What are some of the strange names you've used or seen?

Our dogs are Tucker, Tandy, Puffin, Codi, Piggy, Piper and Cricket. My two sex links are Tulip and Trixy, the barred rock is Omelette and my barnevelder is Gelato (all hens)

    Pig pen turned chicken coop

My husband and I were given this building which was used for pigs. We were going to build our own chicken coop rather than buying one. Instead, we decided to just turn this into a coop for our new babies. It’s about 14x8 with sliding doors on each side. I would love to hear everyone’s ideas on...
