Right, I understand. With Cots I usually turn the heat off at 3 weeks and they are outside. At some point the chicks don’t need it. This is my first time with Gambel’s so I’m wondering how long they need the heat source.
Thank you. My wife has successfully treated our chickens, and attempted a few times on the quail with mixed results... they are so much smaller. This one is the worst I’ve seen. Thanks for letting me know she can lay edible eggs though! :)
Okay thank you. I do have one that I think needs to be put down. She is having a very hard time walking and her foot looks very red, not putting weight on it etc.
Makes me nervous because I don’t know what egg is hers!
Are you saying that Gambels need to be under a heat lamp for 8 weeks? I’m in over my head then! I have Cots hatching that are going to need the brooder! 8 weeks even when it’s warm? It’s mid 60’s at night here in SoCal.

Much appreciated!
Dave

I put my last hatch (26 birds) outside in a partially enclosed brooder, cardboard bottom, with two 100w heat lamps when they were 1 1/2 weeks old. I am in Southern California and it was during a fairly cold (51 degree) evening their first three days outside. They all survived.
I think as long as...
