My coop has two sliding glass windows with screens that make it easy to control temperature and humidity. I need to come up with a solution for water so I don't have to run a hose back or carry out a water bowl each morning.

Hawks are active all day long, and shooting them or even shooting AT them is illegal
Research the California Delta Smelt and get back to me on how well that is working out for those farmers and their private property.

I have a scoped .22 Marlin that I keep nearby for hawks, but I wouldn't shoot a coyote with a rimfire round - it's not very humane (nor do we have many around here). .223 is a perfect coyote round.
If I let my chickens free range, I'm usually out with them or at least somewhere in the yard. I always keep a scoped .22 Magnum long rifle in case I see a hawk perching around their coop or on my grape arbor. That being said, do hawks hunt more during certain times of the day?
Cool story. I have also prayed for a couple sick or injured chickens and both of them pulled through. One had a bad case of botulism when she was very young. "She" turned out to be a roo as I found out this week, but he is as healthy as can be now after being almost completely paralyzed from the...

Chicken manure is very "hot" compared to other manures. You risk burning your plants if you apply too much fresh chicken manure. I would let it compost for several months so that there is less nitrogen. Keep in mind that the drier the manure, the higher the nitrogen content. As a previous poster...
What about adding some extra roosting bars for your flightier birds? Whatever you end up putting there, keep in mind that you will have to be able to clean out droppings and spiderwebs as they accumulate. I would just make sure that your addition makes it easy to maintain the coop in the future...
