Hello
I hope someone can help!
I bought two 5 month old pekin bantam hens today from a garden centre. I even asked the person selling them if they are both definitely hens & was told yes.
However at bedtime I was stunned to see the grey bantam fully mount the gold bantam. I have never seen a...
Hello
I had two pekin bantam chickens, one was just over 2 years old & the other 4.5 years old. Sadly two weeks ago totally out of the blue I found the 2 year old dead in the nest box.
That has left my 4.5 year old on her own. She seems to have been coping very well for 2 weeks foraging, dust...
Thankyou again for taking the time to write such a supportive & helpful reply! I decided against direct dosing & force feeding as I know my Pekin would find it truly stressful so would probably do more harm than good.
She is managing to eat a bit if I go & hold it in front of her throughout...
Hi Barbara
Thankyou so much for your kind & helpful reply.
I will see if I can find anything out about testing for Mareks in France as you suggest.
In the mean time you mentioned you had had some success in dealing with cases of Mareks & I wondered what you did? Can you recommend anything I...
Hi Everyone
Abit of background:
Afew weeks ago I posted a thread about my Pekin Bantam - she had a swollen eye/ earlobe with a tick on which we removed. She was lethargic & not eating much & after 2.5 days the swelling did not go down. We took her to the vet who gave her an antibiotic injection...
Just a little update to say my little Peking bantam past away yesterday. She was getting much worse (eye completely swollen shut, diahrea, swollen earlobes & wattle, swellings turning black, lethargic, hardly eating or drinking). The cream we were using was not helping & the antibiotic injection...
Thank you Eggcessive for your kind words. Yes we’ll carry on with the cream the vet gave us. When I checked on her mid-morning today her other eye was pretty much swollen shut (not the side of the swelling).
She did eat abit of wet layers pellets though. I don’t know what else we can do except...
Hi Anna-Newhampshire
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’ve not really thought to look in a pharmacy - what I should be looking for to treat a tick bite in particular?
We have a cream prescribed by the vet we have to use for 8 days so hopefully that will do the trick but I’ll keep in...
Hi Eggcessive
We took her to the vet yesterday. She was quite surprised that a tick bite had caused so much swelling. She gave her a thorough exam checking her breathing, inside her beak, that her vent was clear & had no obstructions or anything on it & she checked under her wings for anything...
Hi Eggcessive - I took your advice & gave her some pellets with a little water & plain yogurt & she ate abit this morning. She still isn’t drinking much water & it is hot here today in France so she is panting but doesn’t look too heat exhausted (wings not outstretched etc).
Her face swelling...
