I think my hatch is done. I ended up with 16 live poults- 3 Bourbon Red (1 is a real runt but doing fine) , 4 Black Winged Bronze, and 9 Standard Bronze. I had two other eggs pip but die (1 actually fully zipped). I have the remaining 6 eggs still in the incubator just in case. I am actually...
As of tonight 1 Bourbon red, 2 black winged bronze, and 5 standard bronze have completely hatched. Another 7 are pipping and zipping. While I didn't hatch tutors, I have been giving the oldest ones remedial lessons on drinking. They seem to be catching on and should be able to teach the others.
#2 is out (a Standard Bronze) and 3 and 4 are not far behind. These were all set on Easter day around noon. Turkeys seem to hatch a lot quicker than chickens do. It seems like chickens take forever to go from pip to zip. These turkeys are moving right along.
Glad I put my eggs into lock down last night. 1 bourbon red was out after work today and at least 3 standard (Wishard) bronze are almost zipped. I must be running the incubator hot. I set these all at noon on Easter. I purchased turkey starter on the way home today so I would be ready for the...
This is from Porter's website---
"You will now need to decrease your temp. down to 98.0 - 98.5 degrees and also increase the humidity by adding water, and you want the humidity to be at least 80% and if you can get it higher it will make an easier hatch for the poults as it will help to soften...
I put my eggs into lock down tonight. 25 out of the original 28 appeared to have made it- 5 bourbon red, 5 black winged bronze and 15 standard bronze. I am following Porter's directions- day 24 put them into lock down - turn down the heat and crank up the humidity. I am waiting for things to...
Don't tell this to my two Salmon Favorelles co-raising a "whitish" Turken, a black Americauna, a black Olive-egger, two Silver Sussex and a blue Cochin. It is quite a motley crew.
I have Polish and Turken chicks from Cackle. I ordered 6 Turken pullets from my local farm store and they receive chicks from Cackle. The Turkens have a lot of nice color variety. The polish were in bins when I arrived to pick up the Turkens , so some of them came home too. All the chicks I have...
I candled all my turkey eggs tonight. I am tossing two because they are definately clear. The clear ones were both Wishard Bronze. That leaves me with 26 eggs with something going on inside (16 Wishard Bronze, 5 Bourbon Red and 5 Black-tip Bronze). Now I won't do a full candle agian until lockdown.
I set Sunday at 11:00 CST. My kids are sleeping at grandpa's house tonight because it is spring break. Tomorrow when they are home I will candle a couple more and try to get a pic with my good camera and see how well it works. I am using a candling box I built a couple of months ago.
Well, I just had to give candling a try tonight. I just checked a couple eggs, but I saw action in most of them I checked. All of the Wishard Bronze I candled had veins (I checked 3). I checked 1 Black -winged Bronze and saw veins, and 1 Bourbon Redand saw nothing. I just took a quick iPhone pic...
