    Someone’s laying thin eggs

It’s a 2 1/2 year old red link and we have 3 others who look similar. We feed a hen pellet with calcium and they have free fed oyster shell. We have 13 hens. It’s a thin shelled egg as I’ve luckily gotten to the coop to rescue it before it was broken and eaten

    Someone’s laying thin eggs

I have a single hen laying very thin shelled eggs that break in the nest. I’ve done all of the things to correct it but I think her egg laying machine is broken. I saw her on camera but I have 3 others of the same breed. I’m planning on putting each one in a large dog crate one at a time to see...

How much is too much protein

Our girls go half naked during molt. I've heard of using game feed. The problem is that the molt seems to last 9-12 weeks and some of the varieties molt at different times. Will the high protein content hurt the hens that are done molting?

How much is too much protein during molt?

Our girls go half naked during molt and go from 5-6 eggs each to 0-1 egg a week during that time. I've heard of using game feed. Since the girls molt at different times per variety, will that extra protein hurt them while the others are molting? Molting seems to take 9-12 weeks to do the...

Hi from Paso Robles, Yes, we understand the summer heat. It was 103 here today. We find that a shade cloth does help, we also wet the ground. They will dig and lay in the cool dirt. We also may add ice to their water container and we usually have something from the garden that contains a lot...

    Coupons for Nutrena Feather Fixer

Well, it's that terrible time of year again, when all of our hens go naked. Does anyone know where to get coupons for Nutrena Feather Fixer? It really works fast and gets our girls laying and ready for new feathers for the winter. I've searched the net, but can't find any. Thank you

I think J & R Meats will process chickens. I know they do wild game. There are also some butchers at the Templeton Farmer's market on Saturdays. You may want to try them.

We have some friends that are just getting chickens with their kids 4H. What price have you set for the coop? I will pass it on. They are a really nice family. The wife is a gynecologist also and I share her office, so I know them well.

Hi, we live in Paso east side. We've had our hens for 1 1/2 years and we love them. We would love to get together with other central coast chicken lovers. Does anyone know if there is a local club? If not, than we need to have a meeting place and meet a few times a year to discuss our...

We're always here if you need help, with coop and yard design etc. Farm Supply only has chicks from March to June. If you start in October you will probably need to find poulets or laying hens as our nights start to get cold and these older birds would do better through the fall/winter

We moved to Paso about 2 1/2 years ago. We raised our hens from a day old. A couple of things to watch up here. It can get really hot in the summer 115 degrees, so you need lots of shade, but it can get cold in winter 16 degrees, so trees that lose their leaves are great winter sun and shade...
