Hi, I just opened up a box of my mail order chicks. They we're in the mail less than 24 hrs. They were supposed to be day olds but there were a couple older ones in the box. The box smelled horrid. There was a dead baby in the water bowl :( most of them had severe butt paste so I washed them...
I'm thinking that's just full sun, poor lighting? I just went out to look at him and he doesn't have a brown tint. He doesn't have much tail left so too tall tail problem solve ;) aaaand he also doesn't have his too dark colored, feather picking brother anymore either. Hahaha!
Dang bird is either photo shy or in crow mode! I see what you are saying on the high tail now. Here are the first couple of eggs my girls just started laying the last couple days. One was darker but cracked. I wish I would have snapped a pic before I disposed of it.
Thank you so much for your input. I really appreciate it! I'll try and get a better shot of my high tail boy. He's always in crow mode, lol! All the birds except 3 hens (not shown in pic) came from the same breeder who got the breeding birds from an animal auction. They are all only 5.5...
Thank you for your help! I'm learning so much now too. Last thing I want is to produce low quality birds. Am I to assume I should only hatch out of the darkest eggs if egg color is more important than show to me? They just started laying. I've gotten 4-5's and one really dark one. Maybe a #7...
Here is some of my girls. I have 9 total. 3 are from mypetchicken.com and they are tiny and very little copper. The rest are from the same local breeder as my boys. There are a couple with nice combs. Just not in this pic. Their coloring is great though!
Thank you so much for the wealth of knowledge! Unfortunately, #1does indeed have a weird white tipped grey rooted feather is attached to it's bum. I tried to pull it earlier and the bum feathers are lightly dusted white tips. So funny. If you guys would have chimed in any later, he would...
Thanks so much! Here is the original thread. If you'd like to critique more, please feel free. I'm only keeping one boy so if you have any advice which one, I'd be so appreciative...
