UPDATE:
She’s completely back to normal, dust bathing, securing her spot at the top of the pecking order the second I put her back in with the others, laying like a champ, eating well, drinking and wanting cuddles again! Not sure what happened but at least she’s okay now!
I’m so sorry! I don’t think there was much you could’ve done, given how quick she passed. I do think she was egg bound though, since that can kill a chook very quick. It’s always really sad when you lose any pet, even a chicken :’(
Bumblefoot, judging by that sore on her foot. It doesn’t look too advanced so if treated now, she should be perfectly fine. Treatment as follows:
1) Bathe feet in bath with epsom salts
2) Dry feet well (blow drier on coolest setting if possible)
3) Apply tea tree and honey directly to scab and...

Biggest I’ve seen was a HUGE Australorp at a show one time. He had a good temperament and probably weighed around 8kg. Apparently Brahmas are the biggest breed though.
I’ve had a chook that looks exactly the same. I don’t believe she is egg bound, though it’s worth checking if you can just to rule that out. (Basically latex glove with Vaseline and carefully feel for an egg). I treated mine for both impacted and sour crop. Daily crop and abdomen massages...
I’ve heard you aren’t supposed to but I mix it directly into their feed and if they’re getting too much (their eggshells get that sandpaper texture) I give them a little less. Alternatively just scatter it in one corner of your coop/run for them to eat.
Her keel bone is a bit prominent but I believe that is from her not eating properly for a while, as she’s beginning to fill out again as she gets better. I’m not entirely sure what was wrong with her but I’ve heard of the same thing happening before to other chooks and they seem to look very...
Yes, I agree. I’ve done research in the past on ISAs and people say they usually pass away from exhaustion from their crazy egg-laying abilities. Amy’s stopped laying except once or twice a week, which is good because she isn’t having to lay as much and she’s still laying so I know she isn’t egg...
Hi guys. My ISA Brown hen Amy has suddenly become very sick-looking. She’s ~2 1/2 and has always been a very energetic and happy chook, but now she’s acting really sad, lethargic and sick. Her comb has flopped over, her tail is tucked down and she tends to just stand or sit in a corner of the...
