Thank you.
To be honest I wish I hadn’t taken him back. Our boy is so lovely, he’s tiny so doesn’t scare me 🤣
I guess this is a lesson learned! I will keep him separate for now and figure it out as I go.
Top hen (she was their mum but they’re 18 weeks now) has stepped in a few times giving a...
Bit of a back story. Our hen went broody earlier this year, she had 4 serama cross, 1 hen and 3 cockerels. They’re now 17 weeks old. We wanted to add a cockerel to the flock so we rehomed two of the boys quite easily as they’re small and really sweet.
anyway, one died and the other got brought...
Our broody hatched 2 eggs yesterday (day 20). Now day 21 there is one egg left but she’s not interested and constantly off the nest now as the day olds are running riot lol. Question is, I have a heat lamp, could I put egg under the lamp until it hatches? It does seem to be alive in there! I...
Hey,
Our young broody has successfully hatched two eggs 24 hours ago (beautiful little grey chicks). The third egg has no signs of movement and no pipping. I candled it quickly last night, it looks developed, nice air sac, some red veins, though most of the egg was dark.
How long do I leave it?
We wanted to keep him. We always wanted to add to the flock (we have 3 adult hens) and prepared for roosters although we only plan on keeping 1, any other roosters will be rehomed in the next few weeks, I just want to wait so I know 100% which others are roosters lol.
so far so good he’s been...
This is our second time raising chicks except this time our broody hen is doing all the work.
She has 4 chicks now 6 weeks old. I’m certain two are roosters, one female and I’m not 100% on the 4th one.
Anyway, one of them (I think rooster) is being such a little bully. The worst was today when...
We had 4 hens, sadly one died (water belly). They free range, 2 went broody in the shed one in the coop.
the one in the coop is the one with 4 chicks, she has the run to herself, I tried moving one of the broodys in the run but the mum just kept attacking her so I let her out again.
The one...
We have 3 hens, all 3 are broody in different spots. We built a run and put the first one and her 5 week old chicks in there. Our second broody had only 1 chick hatch, I’m wanting to move her into the run as well but her chick is only 3 days old. Would it be safe to put them in with the other...
Excuse my dirty hands lol. Anyone have any idea on male or female? I was thinking female but not too sure.
Out of 6 eggs it was the only successful hatch! Poor broody kept squashing them.
