Hi! We have 9 chickens and one of them is a polish chicken with a big bald spot on the top of her head that keeps getting biger. Is there anything we can do to stop the other chickens from hurting her? It looks so painful! And when they pull the feathers out, she doesn't stop them, she just sits...
our almost year old chicken started laying on the ground, when i go out to check on her she springs up and runs away, but when i leave she is laying on the ground sideways again. is this normal or concerning?
it ended up working pretty well last year! it gets small fast so make sure you have an upgrade path! also it makes the bathroom so dusty to be careful!
thats a great idea! it is almost christmas break and i will be off school and i am going to try to put her in the nesting box before she lays! she also has a weird schedule, sometimes laying super early in the morning, and sometimes at like 11 am or 12 pm!
yup! we have two fake ceramic eggs in the nesting box. I don't think ive ever really seen them go in there, i have seen the laying chicken in there about once.
what are everyone best egg tips? we live in utah and it is very cold so if we don't collect the eggs soon after they are layed they freeze and sometimes crack. how do we stop this? can we still eat the eggs that have been frozen? i have also heard it is bad to wash eggs but there is almost...
we currently have 2 chickens, and only one has started laying. She lays them on the ground in the corner of the coop instead of the nesting box. how should i get her to stop laying it there and use the nesting box instead?
here is a pic of them, they just eat growing freed from ifa, and we are out of food and need to get new food. should i get layer feed now even if they haven’t started laying?
we have a easter egger, and a silver laced wyendotte that we got around may 6th right about when they were born. (we used to have 5 chickens but 3 of them are roosters and our neighborhood doesn't allow that). they are both old enough to lay, but they don't. are they sick? is something wrong?
nooooooo!
we got 5 chickens, and three of them ended up being cockerels, leave us with two chickens, a easter egger and a wyendotte. would it be ok to keep them? in the spring we would get more chickens, and they wouldn’t be lonely anymore.
it is definitely not but enough for anything to get through, but thank you guys for all the tips! i will probably get a board or something for the feeder and waterer to attach to
there are two of our chickens, a silkie and a bared rock. We are 99% sure the silkie is a guy because we heard what we think is crowing coming from it and the bared rock looks exactly like a rooster. please let me know if you think these are actually roosters because we are about to give them to...
we have our food and water containers hanging in the run from the hardware cloth. i was trying to take it off and broke one tiny bit of the wire where it was hanging, and i just moved it to another square hole nearby to hang from. is there a way to seal the small break in the wire?
