    Stay dilemmas

I bought a bail of straw, then read it could cause respiratory disease and crop impaction, should I just use it in the nest boxes? Not the run and coop? I was hoping for a litter lighter than sand and cheap, but don't want to hurt the birds. If I chop it to avoid crop impaction how long...

    Adding adult chickens

Thank you that is very helpful advice, it does seem the young roo is all hopped up on hormones, I sometimes bring him down into my yard for some alone time, he is way more mellow without the girls around

    Can't find "grower" feed

I think mixing is a good idea, and I was going to put oyster shell in a bowl free choice, though not sure when it is safe to start offering as they are 16 weeks, I also give dry grubs and veggie scraps, so hopefully they will continue to thrive

    Can't find "grower" feed

I found all flock with 2.5% calcium and 20% protein so that's what I got, and will mix with the other brand with slightly less protein but all nice grains

    Can't find "grower" feed

We have four 15 week old chicks, three Pullets and one Roo, they have only eaten chick starter crumble so far. I can't find feed labeled "grower" at the store, not sure what to do, I am going to buy the chick starter again to be safe, a bag should last maybe a month. Is there a way to tell...

There is a study in sexing eggs by shape.

I don't know, since the whole egg is so important not just the yolk it seems reasonable that it would be involved

There is a study in sexing eggs by shape.

That's great to know, I definitely think some eggs are harder to differentiate, probably based on breed, I wish there would be a bigger study done and pay attention to breeds

I know what you mean about torpedoes, maybe the difference is more subtle in those? Believe me I now stare at those particular eggs and wonder

There is a study in sexing eggs by shape.

So I came across the same research after hatching four chicks, after checking their shells, it seemed to be true! The elongated shape egg hatched the only male. Can anyone who is hatching eggs please take pictures of eggs and report sex of chicks? I think we could gather more information...
