I store it a few different ways... Depends on how you want to eat it... I boil some down to make broth... I then shread the meat off of those and can it in jars... This way anytime I want a quick meal I have precooked chicken ready to go... can make quick wraps, salads, and sandwiches this...

I'm not a pro by any means... I raise my batches of birds in very small groups... but I still wouldn't put meat birds with egg layers... if you are buying them as chicks the meat birds will be double the size of the egg birds in about a week... and if they get much bigger they start bullying the...

it's an easy mistake to make... hope all the other babies turn out ok!

wow great pics thanks so much for posting... we have a silkie roo and some RIR hens and I just added some eggs in the bator and was hoping to get a decent chicken out of the cross...

man those Silver foxes are beautiful!!! Wish you lived closer! I just had a litter of Flemish Giants born and 2 litters of new zealands last night... If I can get them to make it through the cold I'll try to post some weights here in a few weeks to compare sizes if you like?

That's what I thought as well seems to be taking them a long time thought maybe it's because they are older... They have most of their new feathers in now so maybe soon I'll get some eggs from them...

ok this past spring I got 5 gals off of a friend of ours... the girls I'm not sure on age but I'm thinking about 3 years old... When we first got them and all summer we were getting 2-4 eggs per day from them... Then about the beginning of august the girls started molting... and stopped laying...

Big Giant Hugs! you described my first butchering of a chicken to a tee! The poor boy would die... I was crying desperate to find anything to get the job done... It was aweful... I still have 2 roos sitting in their pen... I tried to just freerange them thinking I could just let them live out...

I gave my week olds spaghetti and they loved it!!! only problem is now my white feathered chicks are stained orange from the tomato sauce... LOL Hope it fades or comes out they look so dirty now... But they loved it!
