She is now in a nest 2 ft off the ground sitting on 13 eggs at various stages of development, and there are some that are within a few days of hatching. I’m assuming that it would be pretty hard to switch her to the floor once the chick start to hatch. So could I put them on the floor after...
The eggs are at various hatch time. Can I put her on a nest in a cage now on the floor? I’m thinking that won’t be very easy😬 and I would like for her to hatch as many as she’s willing to.
2nd question how do I get them to sit on eggs on the floor to begin with? My .chickens are austrolorp...
I have 30 hens that have been wearing them for 45 days. They were used to stop pecking at the throat area at night on the roost. The chickens look to be healing and growing back feathers. I was wondering if I could remove them now ?
Thank you
Connie
I have 30 hens and have a pecking problem! It’s happening at night on the roost as best I can tell. We put up more roost length so they all wouldnt be fighting for the one roost. Pecking is mostly the neck area and seems to be spreading to more hens. I think the stress is also affecting...
The hens are 1 and 2 yo. I’m nott sure how much calcium is enough. My feed is 3.9-4.4% I just know I’ve read to have coral shell available also. So I mix egg shells with it and they don’t eat the coral shell. I did throw some on the ground today and they seemed to eat it then. 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
My hens do get to free range during the day. They have a pretty large area to roam when they are fenced in but they have made it all dirt, which is good for dust baths, so they can’t wait to get out! Yes, I think we will put up another roost at the level of the one they are on to see if that...
My coop is 8x16 and I have 30 hens. My roosts are 8 ft long and there are 4 of them. There is a pecking problem of the neck going on and it is involving more hens.
Thinking it’s that they all vie for the top roost so was thinking about putting another up on a different wall at same height?
As...
Well, I’m gonna find out 🤞. I wanted to raise chicks so I bought 5, got 6, buffs, 4 austrolorps, and 1 Buff rooster. The description was broody and docile on both breeds. Just didn’t want the flighty and nervous ones. Got them Tuesday I am going to try to be around them as I can for them to...
I am no chicken expert but from what I have read the best way is a well ventilated coop. As they roost at night and breath and poop the moisture in the coop will cause the frost bite. chickens don’t mind cold but the dont like being in direct drafts.
hope this helps
I recently bought a Vevor automatic chicken feeder. I am having a big issue with sparrows, so I thought that it would help.
My question is, how do you train the chickens to use it? How long does it take to train them?
I have taken out the feeders that I used and replaced with one of these.
If...
2 yo hen she poops and it hangs on and forms a big blob! She seems to act fine. Should I be worried? Is there something I can do to help her?
thanks
