    Cuddling your chickens?

Thanks for all the replies. Helpful and definitely my line of thinking. We wash hands every time and started a dedicated chicken pair of shoes. One question tho, we let them out a couple times a day where they have free reign of the backyard (supervised of course). So obviously, they poop in...

    Cuddling your chickens?

Not sure this is the right forum. I keep running across articles about the dangers of treating backyard chickens like pets. Meaning picking them up, playing with them, cuddling them etc... The danger would be getting salmonella. We have 3 chickens and my daughter (6 years old) loves them all...

Introducing 2 young hens to single hen

We're in Southern California, so weather is mild. They're in the enclosed space (about 6 Sq ft) only at night when it's dark. And in the run (about 20 Sq ft once expanded) during the day. They also come out of the run at least a couple times a day as well for free time in the backyard.

Introducing 2 young hens to single hen

We got 2 more chicks (Buff Orpington and Americana) which are now around 5-6 weeks old. They currently live in the garage in a...

    Hens or Roosters

Yeah pretty obvious I guess. So what are our options for adding a new chick to replace him? Should we find a home for both of them and start over with 2 new chicks? Or keep the brahma? How would we introduce a new chick to the brahma?

    Hens or Roosters

Hey all, first time chicken owners here. Wondering if we have hens or roosters now that they are getting older, around 3 months old. We have a Blue Americana and a Light Brahma. Pretty sure the Light Brahma is indeed a hen. But the Blue Americana is looking more like a rooster based on the comb...
