From what I understand, you have one adult hen and rooster, and two pullets and two cockerels coming in. It is not going to be in their best interest to be in a ratio of 1:1. From what I’ve heard, and experienced it’s best to have one rooster for every ten hens or even more hens…...
So went out to my coop today after hearing suspicious sounds. Popped open the back door to find an egg in the nesting box!! We are at 24 weeks and someone finally decided to lay :) I am wondering though, is this a silkie or a white leghorn egg?

Females will bow and coo. They’ll sometimes laugh too. But also, I’ve had a lone proven male sit on eggs before. Doves are kinda tricky when it comes to gender. You’ll probably have to wait and see if they lay their own eggs.
I have three chickens that I’m not quite sure about breed. They’re all 7 weeks old now.

I give my chickens some grit at all times inside the coop. Just in a little pot, I keep it inside so it doesn’t get wet. But they usually find their own. I also give them a big plastic bin and I fill it with some dirt and sand. I only do that if they haven’t been let out. So not a lot...
