    Mystery Sickness?

I kept them as dry as possible, in a house with an awesome little broody hen. Constant damp weather just seems to bring on all kinds of problems. I had major trouble with mold that kept getting in my incubator, though the hens had no trouble hatching eggs, just getting the babies to live was an...

    Mystery Sickness?

Oh yeah, the gosling I lost, did get a small lump on the side of his bill, but it was going away. The bantam does not have any lumps that I can tell, she is still very alert, and tries to walk even though she falls. I put her in a small box so she will not hurt herself.

    Mystery Sickness?

I don't know how many if any were vaccinated. I got most of them from TSC or friends, who often got them from other friends. The few that I have hatched/ordered were not vaccinated. I live in North Carolina. I did have an unusually high mortality rate among the few babies I did hatch this...

    Mystery Sickness?

I'm still curious about the lumps on the showgirl's neck. Also the bantam seemed to take a turn for the worse today, she can't walk without loosing her balance and typically falls forward. I'm rather glad my classes were canceled today, I'd have skipped them to tend her otherwise.

Here are a few photos of the showgirl, thanks for your help.

    Mystery Sickness?

I'll get a photo of the showgirl in the morning. One of the roosters did have a bit of mucus, but he was the only one. I think he had a weak immune system too. Some of them seemed to have lost weight, others did not. One silkie was molting. I can't feel or see anything except for the lumps on...

    Mystery Sickness?

Most of mine have been younger birds with the exception of my bantam and the rir. It seems to the worst when the weather is cold and damp. I have been giving them DE lately, to make sure they don't have worms. I also dusted them with it. I probably need to dust the coops too, but I don't think...

    Mystery Sickness?

I have been trying to figure out why my birds are dying for a while now. It's not a ton of them, but can be several at one time. It started last year, either sometime in February or March. I lost 5 young guineas about 10 weeks old. They died within the span of a couple days. They were all fine...

    Raising Guinea Fowl 101

I have raised guineas for about 2 yrs, chickens for more. I give all my keets and chicks Poly-Vi-Sol, in their water, for the first week. I also like to give them boiled egg to eat for the first couple of days. I have free ranging adults and I noticed all my keets from my adults, including a...

d'anver lovers, discuss the breed and post some pics!

I love d'anvers, but I don't have any, yet.... But I did have a guinea keet like you describe your chick. I let my hens raise my keets. (So much easier) At 6 weeks he was like a 1 week old. The other keets were on their own, so I put him under a hen with some new hatched chicks, gave them some...

Norfolk, VA city ordinances, a straight answer needed, maybe even your opinion ;)

I think I would try to get one, and then if need be, find out why no one can get one, if you are suppose to be able to get one. Hens for the most part are fairly quite, except right after they lay an egg, they get startled, or they decide they want the nest the other hen is in. If someone...

Game hen with a chunk out of her leg

When we first started raising birds, we had no idea what we were doing or getting into, and we ended up with to many roos. We knew they were rough on the hens, and were making plans for them, but they picked a favorite. She ended up with 2 large sores on her sides, and her wings covered them so...

    hens dying from being pecked

I don't know what you are feeding her, but I wouldn't think force feeding would be bad if you are gentle. I've had to force feed a couple of my hens that got sick and wouldn't eat, and I've force fed a chick that wouldn't eat. They all lived. Here are a few things you might try feeding her to...

    New Here

I'm from North Carolina, but I was born in Wasington state :) Gotta love the guineas. I have a couple of hens raising 17 keets right now: pearl gray, pearl x white, white, lavender, and pied. I bought most of the eggs and let the hens hatch because I only had pearl at the time.
