Last weekend we had a chicken that we had to dispatch because she had guts hanging out of her abdomen(not her vent) This chicken had previous issues with water belly but improved on her own. But We had noticed her earlier in the day that she was bleeding from that spot so we put some blue coat...
This is really interesting, thank you both for your input. It makes me really want to learn more about how chicken genetics work.
Just out of couriousty since you said the the feathered legs are dominant. Would you know how my light brahma and salmon faverolle feet would look like? Would the...
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but I have a light brahma rooster and 27 assorted breed hens including buff orpingtons, blue cochins, gold laced Wyandotte, black astralorp, brown leghorn, easter eggers, partridge rock, cuckoo marans, salmon favarelle and a few mixed...
Your the best. What a nice, insightful response!
So i have gotten rid of a few girls in the past but only to give them to friends that are starting out or so that i could have a bit more room for some new chickens. I've only been in the chicken game for 3 years now so i'm relatively new but i...
My husband is actually pretty okay with the chickens although he has put a limit of 30 chickens on me which I think is reasonable. The problem we have in my area is that pretty much everyone has chickens or knows someone that has chickens and they all get their eggs from other people. Most of my...
I hope my husband never see this! I know it sounds like alot but seriously my 27 chickens are my pets and i could never get rid of them. Everyone has a name and I have a serious chicken math problem. I don't mind having so many chickens or eggs I'm just trying to make sure i can find a nice way...
Thank you so much for your opinion! I think i'll lean more toward supplementing a quarter of the meat birds feed with eggs and see how they do on it. I've looked into dehydrating eggs but i feel like that would be a more time consuming option for me.
Its just a bunch of eggs cracked into a...
So pretty much the title. I'm getting more eggs than I can manage right now. Last year we had pigs and I would cook a batch of eggs and freeze them to give to the pigs as a nice protein boost every week. This year we're not doing pigs but I have 27 egg layers and we're also going to be getting...
Nothing ended up happening. All of them seem healthy and I still have them 2 years later. I still notice it every once in a while on some birds but I think that it's just some kind of bruising from pecking. I never figured anything else out about it.
I've never heard of trap nests before but i just looked it up and it looks like an interesting option, Thank you!
I never thought to do a float test on them since they've always been fresh. Why would i float test them otherwise? What results should i expect if i do?
Thank you for that! I...
Well that's the thing, i don't know which hen it is. I only know which egg has the green yolk, it's pink and has a swirl in it. I've already collected 6 eggs today and none of them have swirll. I know some of my ladies eggs so i know for sure it's not my buff orpingtons or our mixed breed...
Yea i have heard of that also, but i dont have anything like that around here. I'm thinking it may be the weed shepards glove since i do let the out to freerange for a couple of hours a day.
I don't think they are getting into anything. I'm not reading Dr. Seuss book "Green Eggs & Ham"at night to them :) . I cannot figure out whats going on.
I do have a lily(which i know is poisonous) that's growing around an apple tree we recently transplanted into the run, which seems to be...
