Hey guys! We have some really low temps coming here in Michigan and I think I might need to up my ventilation before it happens tomorrow afternoon. There’s a 3ftx6in vent in my coop but it’s right behind the roosting bars. This hasn’t been an issue until now. Now I’m thinking it’s not high...
I’m in Michigan. Lots of snow, ice, wind. When I got the coop I wasn’t aware the vent was so close to the roosting bars and not above the hens more. It hasn’t been an issue until now. The vent is about 3 ft by 6 inches. I was thinking of adding a few ventilation holes in the roof peak. Storm is...
I’ve been watching diligently for any condensation in my coop and have never found any. This morning, after a 10 degree night, there was a small amount of frost on the window and one wall. Is this a ventilation issue? We have some cold nights coming up and I want my ladies to remain comfortable...
Just worked on winterizing a section of the large run! We had some early snow and I realized I needed a good covered area. Luckily the snow melted and I had a second chance at making it right! I covered a 6x10 area off the coop and then to keep cost down just put a cattle panel hoop house for...
It’s all up and it seems like it’s going to work really well! I’ve got a few more areas to strap to the top part of the fence but I’m just glad it’s up!
Luckily, I got two of the 25’x50’ aviary netting so I can use my hog nose pliers and connect the two. Hopefully that should cover the whole thing! I’ll definitely look into the hotwire situation. I don’t know a darn thing about it so I’m glad you mentioned that! Thanks!
I’ve got my 10’ t posts up and just put a 12’ beam (sunk 36 inches and cemented in) in the middle of the run! Tomorrow is the moment of truth! The netting goes up! 😬 I’ve got some caps for the t posts with clips on them to hold the netting up. Hopefully I won’t need to run cable around the top...
Below is a picture of what I got! My dog kennel fence is pretty solid. It’s all attached to t posts that are placed on the inside and outside of the fencing at about 5’ intervals. I think if I did the 10’ t posts in the corners/around the perimeter and had a center wood beam that was cemented in...
I’m wondering if 10’ t posts placed around the perimeter of the run could hold up fabric aviary netting? I would cover the coop area with a metal roof and 10’ 4”x4”wood beams cemented in as a frame for that part that would be like a pergola style area. I’ve never worked with 10’ t posts so not...
Maybe I should make a smaller predator proof run within the large kennel run. I can then put aviary netting from the dog kennel to the top of the predator proof run and they can go out and have access to the whole thing while I’m down there with them which is quite often during the day. This...
That’s what I was thinking. This project intimidates me! I’m handy but haven’t tackled something like this. However, I don’t want to put my chickens out there and have them picked off by raccoons on day one! We have quite a few in the area and I know their coop is predator proof but I’ve seen...
