I'm going to be getting meat birds in the spring and will be processing them on the farm and selling them to family and friends. I know that the USDA has an exemption for this for under 1000 birds. Are there any state regulations for doing this?
I've had 2 raccoons in the coop this week. They're coming in through the trap door before the chickens even go in to roost. So far they've just gotten eggs and no birds. Any ideas to keep them away?
I keep water and food outside year-round. What kind of chickens do you have? Mine are RIR and they were in a yard with a 6' privacy fence for a year and never escaped without clipping there wings.
I have some questions for those of you selling eggs. Do you need any sort of license? What do you do to prepare them for sale? Do you clean and refrigerate?
I have 4 RIR that will be 5 months old Feb 2 and haven't played yet. They just finished a bag of grower/finisher feed. Should I start them on layer feed now?
1. Salmonella isn't airborne. If they're not in your yard handling your chickens and droppings, then they're safe.
2. What are they doing to keep other wild birds away from their property?
3. My chickens aren't nearly as noisy as wild birds, lawnmowers, leaf blowers, cars, the wind, etc.
