    Questions on the Rooster Collar

We have one on our rooster. It does make him very much more quiet. And he does not seem to mind. Very active, good with the ladies, and no issues with us. I would encourage you to make sure that you regularly check the tightness to make sure it is not too constrictive as he grows. You might...

No crow rooster collar question from WA

Greetings, I use a collar on our roo, and have had good results. I would be concerned if the rooster was doing as yours is. I usually check ours about once a week to make sure it is loosened a bit as he gets bigger. I have used both the NoCrow and the Cock Collar...

    Maryland rooster complaint

Agreed. Too broad to be reasonable. There needs to be a specific definition, otherwise the "violation" is in the eye of the beholder. What is the decibel threshold? Distance? What is your zoning? If agricultural, that may take care of it right there. I am in Montgomery in Maryland. We have...

    Maryland rooster complaint

Which county? You might also wish to see what the specific code states with regards to a definition of "disturbing the peace." Is it during certain hours? A specific volume, and if so, how was this measured? Device used? Or subjective according to what specific criteria?

    Maryland rooster complaint

Someone had to write the complaint. What agency, and, as above, what is the charge?

    Odd wording in Ordinance

Yes, that was the point. People consider exotic birds as pets, rather than entertaining that a common chicken could be the same. Again, depends on who decides " commonly."

    Odd wording in Ordinance

"A domesticated animal kept for pleasure rather than utility." Definition of pet from the dictionary. That to me, would encompass chickens. The problem is the person saying of course, for dogs and cats, that would apply, but chickens are "different." Who decides what "commonly" means?

    Show off your roosters

If I understood correctly, he is a mix of an Ameraucana and Black Copper Marans father, with an unknown member of the flock mother. I really like the mix of colors and his temperament has been fantastic. He calls the ladies when he finds food, woos them nicely, and has been very gentle with...

    Show off your roosters

This our new mutt, Izzy. Short for Issabella, until she turned out to be a he. Picked up at a swap, bathed, vaccinated, etc. He has been very good with people and dogs, and a gentleman with the ladies. The ladies, however, have turned out to be a bunch of saucy librarians in disguise...

    MPC Easter Egg GIVEAWAY!

Well, this certainly would be interesting. My wife was not sure at all about chickens at first, but if we win this, she will finally be getting an incubator! We have been trying to find a good excuse! Happy trails and luck to all!

    Metzer Farms

We had five ducks shipped from Metzer to Maryland. They all arrived healthy and grew well. Ours are just about six months at this point. We bought a selection of different ducks, and here is a picture of Trixie, our Welsh Harlequin. The coloring on her wings changes a bit depending on the...

    Rooster won't stop crowing

We wound up with a rooster also, and have tried the NoCrow and the Cock Collars. Of the two, the Cock Collars seemed to work a bit better...so far. Hopefully this will continue. They are a slightly stretchy Velcro/elasticy material. The key we found, was that it does really need to be snug...

    Mourning behavior in chickens?

Sorry for the loss of your hens. Okra (Great name.) is very handsome, and the other two are pretty also. I do think they can tell that some of their flock members are gone, and that this loss is confusing and disorienting. I think the flock members do feel an attachment to each other and can...

Should I get more ducks now or later

This is sort of a trick question, isn't it? The answer is "yes."
