Keeping quails, allotments and the law!

Has anyone else had a problem with trying to keep quails on their allotments? I have had to start a petition to keep mine. Hope it works... Here it is https://www.change.org/p/witney-allotment-association-allow-allotment-holders-to-keep-quail-as-set-out-in-the-allotment-act-1950 Would...

Pyjama party and pooping in the nest box!

Cheers. Its a little hard to split the nesting box as it is a long one with a door in the middle. Thanks Dan. I've made the door so will give it a go later. R

Pyjama party and pooping in the nest box!

Hey all, All of my chooks bar one sleep in the nesting box instead of in the roosting compartment. That's 1 amber, 1 nera, and 4 pekins all in the nesting box which is 1x3ft. I have no real issue with it, except for all the poop in the morning. I would like the bedding to last more than a day...

Dolly and the mouse (pest control)

So you 'plant' the whole thing in the ground except the solar panel flush with the surface? We have heavy clay so I am not sure it will work :/ R

Dolly and the mouse (pest control)

I'll add the sonic devices to my arsenal as well then. They would be good for the garage and shed, but not sure if you can get one which works out of doors? We're going to take the food in this evening and I have some humane traps to use in the garage. I guess that's all I can do at them...

Dolly and the mouse (pest control)

Has this worked so far MuckyPuppy? Thanksfully we don't get snakes where I live. Well at least I hope not anyway. I guess I need to buy an airtight storage box and put all feeders in there over night and stop feeding them cord strain to the floor of their pen. Rats would be my worse...

Dolly and the mouse (pest control)

Its early evening here and I just put the chooks back in their pen and scattered some corn about as a bedtime snack. I was amazed and disgusted with what happened next. Our new amber girl, who goes by the name of Dolly, caught a mouse and was being chased around by the other chooks. She ate...

    Cat food and egg laying

Hi all, I have three Warrens who used to be barn hens until 3-4 months back. After a month, one started laying almost daily, the other two look a lot more healthy, but have produced nothing. Now I know not to expect much from these girls as they are in the retirement, however if there was...

    Which bantam to incubate quail?

Thanks :) I tried to make my own, but just got fustrated. I have found one for £50 which is suitable for 7 hens eggs, so I'm guess will fit 14 quails no problem.

    Which bantam to incubate quail?

Hey guys and girls, I have my new cock quail today and have some girls coming for him in a week or two. I know that these hens won't go broody or sit on their eggs and I cant really afford an incubator at the moment. I want to experiment with broody bantams, but not sure where to start. I have...
