Sorry, I wasn't clear. This is for my adult chickens in the coop. I will be using only when temps get below 0º F and I cannot be turning it on and off manually with my/our work schedule
I plan on using a plug in thermostat, so I don't want to accidentally buy a heat plate that has an actual button that needs to be pushed to turn on. I want this to start heating when the thermostat kicks in. Can anyone give me suggestions on heat plates that are like this? (edited- this is for...
You are correct with the opening statement. Sunrise in my area (standard time) is 6:43 am this morning and Dec. 20 it will be 7:37am. This is why I changed it to 8:00 standard time rather than keeping it at 7:00 standard time so they won’t be out in the dark.
This is the only thing that changed, so quite possible. The reason I changed the opening time was so they Wouldn’t be let out in the dark. Don’t ask me why I thought I should do that.😎😎

The rooster is about six and a half months old and only has small nubbin spurs right now, but he still managed to put a good dent (and bruise) on my wife’s ankle while she was painting posts in the run. We bought eight chicks in May and didn’t want any roosters, but unfortunately one of the...
I'm trying to train my chickens to drink from this nipple waterer since it will be heated for winter. The other day I let their regular waterer go dry, sat with them and took their beaks and pressed them into the nipples to get water out. It seemed to work pretty good and most if not all were...
I'm new to raising chickens and this is their first week in the new coop and run. My chickens basically all huddled in the corner on the floor the first night, the next night 6 of the 8 roosted and the other two huddled in the same corner and night 3 and on so far, they have all come in from the...
