Doing well. Got quite the variety menagerie right now, ducks mostly, but a couple, banties, turkeys, and geese.
Still get the occasional duck with angel wing since I’m still breeding with some of the same stock, but binding or no they grow up happy and healthy.
Got three banties I hope one of...
I assume that 1 rounded (heaping) tbs is equivalent to 2tbs as a single tbs is level with the edge of the scoop and a heaping one is well past the edge.
Did the bag lie?
I don’t know if it’s feasible to make the mixture the only source of water except at night (as they free range during the day and drink from cat pan, mud puddle etc. as well as the water they are supposed to drink) short of incarcerating the turkey in a dog crate. Would you...
Wanting treats? My scoves and pekins “nibble” (some harsher than others) on hands pants and feet when they want treats. And I’ve seen chickens, at least, do a “dance” when they are excited. Not sure on the squealing most of mine are scoves and they make different noises than most ducks.
If it’s...
I’ve got a turkey (chick?) about 2 months old with bowed looking legs. (S)he stumbles/sways when (s)he walks and has a tendency to lay/sit more then the three other turkeys (s)he is with. My MIL says she thinks (s)he’s been having difficulty for about two weeks. And that (s)he seems hump backed...
The condition is not deadly or anything, but most people like to correct it for looks and or flying mobility. If you want to fix it do so as quickly as possible. The longer it is left the less likely it is it can be corrected, because the twisted joint will set that way.
If you want to fix it...
Yes in my experience older and more experienced drakes are better. Given that the hen is younger than the drake, take extra care. The drake if overly enthusiastic can be dangerous given his older age and therefore larger size. If he is inexperienced with mating it may take some time till he gets...
Glad it helped!
As duck mommy 2019 said you can feed duck or chicken eggshells too as long as they are prepared properly.
Oyster shell was easier for me, I never could find the time to bake and crush eggshells. Though, I still want to try it sometime to see how mine like them.
Oyster shells are a calcium supplement usually broke down into fine gravel like pieces. Supplementing oystershell will not train her to brake her eggs.
In my experience when ducks or chickens intentionally brake eggs it’s because they are short on calcium or protein (in which case they usually...
That’s young for a broody as far as I’ve experienced.
If you want ducklings place some fertilized eggs under her and see what happens. As pullet press said broody ducks are rare take advantage of it!
If you aren’t interested in a broody duck and want her to lay eggs dismantle the nest to end...
