Well it was -40C here yesterday.....I have one 175W IR bulb going in the insulated 8x12 coop and 25 ISA browns in there....
No problems yet and it has been cold like this for weeks now....
No frozen combs so far, avging 1egg/hen/day.
Water has turned to slush 2 times so far but I was a dummy...
one other point.....if you are using a chainsaw, at least get yourself a pair of safetly chaps...nothing will mess up your day like cutting into your leg.....
OH and dont sit a hot chainsaw in the snow....learned that one the hard way back in the day....froze up solid when I went back to use it...
I have went from from 40lbs of laying crumbles to 80lbs per week since it started getting cold.
25 ISA browns avg'ing 24-25 eggs per day.
They also get kitchen scraps and lately they have been getting 1 mixed icecream pail of brown bread crusts and cabbage thrown in the coop in the morning...
I live in Manitoba and it is around -40'C with the windchill right now, I get the odd crinkled egg like that, mebbe one out of every 14-15 dozen... Eggs like that go to the dogs or get given away as "free" eggs....Just dont feel right about selling a wrinkly...

Meaties should go in the freezer mid august, turkeys mid sept.
