    Nobody has had this happen or advice? If it is still stuck later today, I plan on taking her in and squirting some saline on it... warm her up, then try to get her back out in the coop before nightfall...

    We've been managing through these really cold temps just fine, no heat other than their water, and their body heat! Well... until today. Bronwen (an EE) came out of the hen house with both eyes closed, then opened one of them. She kept the other eye closed. I couldn't see any problem, infection...

    REALLY cold weather

    Our heater that goes under the waterer is having a very hard time with these super cold temperatures, and it is going to get even colder! I've been pouring hot water on the frozen ring, then lifting it out. What other options are there?

    With regard to the water, if you are worried about the freezing, I'm assuming that you don't have a heated pan? We have a big metal puck looking thing that goes under our 5 gallon metal waterer and it works well. Just wondering if you have tried that. Our girls (all a little older) haven't laid...

    My EEs are so super social - they even share their nestboxes (and talk the another one into going broody when they feel like it). Always together and loving. Good Luck!!!

    Broody Hen - how long does it last?

    Broody can be bad too... My Geena is going on a month & a half and is skinny from not eating normally. I make sure she eats, drinks, and gets out at least twice a day.     I think your idea of praying for them and then burying them is a good one... sad, but good. I would also go one step further and plant a tree or something on top, that way those eggs will give specific nutrition to plant that will in turn, supply a home to a bird someday.
