Making Mistakes with my First Broody

I didn't know there were special threads like that! I'll go check them out! She stayed nice and chilly last night, then had a full blown panic attack when I tried to grab her from the carrier, which was a great sign. She ran back into the coop as soon as she saw the others, and I haven't seen...

Making Mistakes with my First Broody

Thanks so much for your advice! We've moved her to a colder area where she will be a bit chilly tonight, instead of our toasty bedroom. She's such a sweet soul, I just want to do right by her! But she needs to be with her flock. I'm home all day, so I'll check on her a few times tomorrow.

And no, she's not sitting on eggs. I figure it is too cold for babies.

Making Mistakes with my First Broody

Thanks, Mary! I'll double check the coop tomorrow. I thought we had adequate ventilation, but maybe we need a bit more air flow. There is quite a bit of snow on the coop, so maybe it is keeping some of the air from escaping. I'll put her back out tomorrow... You don't think the shock of the cold...

Making Mistakes with my First Broody

Alright, so I'm pretty sure I've done a no no, but I wasn't sure what to do, so I just had to make a decision. Our Silkie, Hollis has gone broody. Our first hen to do so, though Hollis raised a bunch of chicks at previous home. We live in Michigan where it is hovering around 5 degrees recently...

Roosters Prefer Each Other Over Hens

Us too! We've actually entertained the idea of building another coop if necessary. We just love them both so much and they are so beautiful. Anderson comes running when we come outside now, convinced we have treats. Latrice will come say hello too, but if you sneak up on him with his big hairdo...

Roosters Prefer Each Other Over Hens

We definitely have it lucky. It seems as though our Polish Frizzle doesn't seem to have any roo tendencies which really helps. We're pretty smitten on the Silkie. My wife heard a pathetic little crow this morning while I was at work, pretty adorable I have been told. I have a feeling we'll be OK...

Roosters Prefer Each Other Over Hens

We understand your concern about quarantine, we've read plenty on the matter. What you don't know is how particular we are as to where we look for new babies and that we don't have the facilities to quarantine a chicken for weeks. We have a 650 sq ft. ranch in the middle of the woods. Secondly...

Roosters Prefer Each Other Over Hens

Alright, so we brought little Anderson the silkie rooster home last week, he's around 6 months old. Then after posting pictures of our frizzled Polish, Latrice Royal, discovered that she is in fact a he and now we have two beautiful roosters. Latrice is between 6 and 8 months old and has...

Tolbunt Polish Frizzle Male or Female

That would explain the initial I am going to chase you Mr Silkie roo. He's very odd though, no noise or interest in the ladies, maybe he's still too young? I don't know how far along in development he is.

Tolbunt Polish Frizzle Male or Female

Hello all, we picked up Latrice a couple of weeks ago and after introducing a little silkie roo she had quite a reaction which got us thinking, is there a chance that she is in fact a he? Couple of observations No comb or wattles of any kind, not even a hint of any Very quiet, doesn't make any...
