    Roosting problem

Every time my chickens (4) go to sleep they all go on their roosts, but later in the night one of my pullets get pushed off and ends up sleeping on the floor. We have 6 roosting posts (3 on one side of the small coop and 3 on the other) The roosting posts are quite close together so they can lay...

Will my eggs always be fertile?

Thanks for all the replies. The pullets actually just arrived 2 weeks ago when we found out that the two chicks we raised together turned out to be both cockerels! So as the cockerels were raised from birth getting rid of them is not an option and i think i'll just put a saddle on them when...

Will my eggs always be fertile?

I have 2 pullets and 2 cockerels. There all still pretty young to start mating and egg laying but when the pullets do, will they always have fertilised eggs. We'd love to have chicks but we're hoping to at least eat some of the eggs.

    Can cats kill my chickens

Thanks for all the replies! These cats are quite domesticated and don't really visit any more. I even showed one of my roos to one of the cats about 10 metres away and it didn't even bother standing up. I'll wait till they're full grown

    Can cats kill my chickens

Recently my pullets and cockerels have been growing quite a lot (10 weeks) and I am thinking of leaving them out of the run by themselves. We don't get any predators about just some house-cats who will occasionally try and eat them but we have 2 cockerels and 2 pullets. Would the cockerels be...

When can I leave my chicks on their own??

I have four chicks, 2 roos and 2 hens who are about nine weeks old. Many cats from neighbouring houses have been trying (but failing) to have a nibble at the chickens. They're starting to lose interest and am wondering when (if ever) can I leave my chickens in the garden without supervision to...

    Cockerel and Pullet fighting

My rooster and pullet have just been lashing out at each other really randomly. They're both red sussex and have lived together for about 2 weeks without problem but recently they just been like kicking each other. Help!
