I spoke with Jeff from Miami Township zoning, and apparently at Tuesday’s council meeting there was a notion discussed which would allow 6 chickens per household regardless of property size! Nothing substantive yet, but it’s promising!
I could try to contact the owner and ask. That’s not a bad idea. Any coop would still technically need to be 200 ft from the property line which would, in turn, put the coop about 300’ from our house. Might be a little far to fetch eggs daily.
We get along swimmingly with our neighbors, but I’m a little afraid to ask, and across the street is a realtor whom I suspect would report us.
Our suburban house sits on .75 acres and backs up to 50 acres of woods which is privately owned and uninhabited.
Has anyone tried asking for forgiveness rather than permission? I am tempted to just start raising some chicks and building a coop tucked away in our woods in hopes that no one notices/cares.
Upon further investigation, it looks like bill 175 was shut down in late 2018, but bill 124 is similar and was introduced earlier this year.

Thanks, Gary!
This is great for any Ohio chikeneers. My wife called John’s office and I am going to call later this month.
Have you heard any news on the bill moving though? Any idea what’s holding it up?
We want to join in the good fight!
We just moved to Willnean Dr and would like to start BYC this fall. We couldn’t believe it when we saw the ordinance against BYC.
I’ll PM you and hopefully we can get a team together to petition the city.
Thanks for posting.
